Provided are fibrous, non-woven structures having a drapeability of greater than about 4 gsm/g and a density less than about 0.08 g/cc, personal care articles comprising such structures, methods of making such structures including methods comprising: stabilizing a thin layer of non-woven fibers into a stabilized web; moving the stabilized web in a machine direction; and contacting the stabilized web with a stream of liquid that is directed at least partially along or against said machine direction.

A textured film device formed from at least one layer of gathered textured film. These devices are capable of producing excellent lather when used with a cleanser and are soft to the touch. Other textured film devices include mitts, gloves, washcloths, and the like formed from at least one layer of textured film. Also provided are systems comprised of the textured film devices and at least one active material selected from cleansers; moisturizers, conditioners; sunscreens; shaving foams; tanning agents; anti-acne agents; anti-aging agents; anti-irritant agents; perfumes/fragrances; and mixtures thereof.

This invention relates to a delivery system which comprises a topical skin care agent, a top layer and a bottom layer where at least one of said top layer and said bottom layer comprises an apertured film having protuberances therein, where said top layer and said bottom layer are attached to each other leaving a pouch between said top layer and said bottom layer, where said protuberances of said apertured film face said pouch, and where said pouch contains said topical skin care agent.

Delivery system for topical skin care agents

An absorbent article and a method for manufacturing an absorbent article are disclosed. The absorbent article is made from an inner core absorbent material, which is surrounded by an apertured film. The absorbent material is selected from rayon, cotton, wood pulp, polyester, polyamide, polyolefin, copolymers thereof, and combinations thereof. The absorbent article has a bottom layer, which is made of an apertured film oriented such that protuberances face the inside of the absorbent article. The absorbent article also has a top layer, which is made of an apertured film oriented such that the protuberances face the outside of the absorbent article. The absorbent article may be useful in various applications including sanitary protection and bandages.

This invention relates to microporous films comprising flocked fibers. Such microporous films may be used as breathable materials in for example absorbent articles, wound care bandages, and skin care patches.

A method of constructing multi-layer products for absorbing fluids is disclosed. In the methods of the present invention, two or more layers of materials chosen to vary in recovery are compressed such that an absorption gradient forms through the continuous intimately associated layers. A first layer preferably remains densified while a second layer 'blooms' to form an open, absorptive layer, which acts as a reservoir, drawing absorbed fluids into the densified layer, where they are retained.

The invention presents classes of thermoplastic, biodegradable compositions. Tests indicate that these compositions exhibit good mechanical properties, and readily degrade in the presence of microorganisms. The compositions of this invention are useful for producing injection-molded, thin-walled articles that are capable of appreciably degrading in the sewage system within thirty (30) days.

A surgical dressing consisting of a film which carries an adhesive layer wherein the film has a hydration rate of at least 0.1 g/in.sup.2 /min.; becomes saturated when in contact with water in 3 minutes or less and absorbs at least its own weight of water. The film comprises a polyethylene oxide and a polymer or polymers selected from an ether based polyurethane and a polyether block amide. The dressing finds special use as a IV catheter site cover.

The sanitary napkin includes wick structure disposed on a body-facing side of the napkin which is biased away from the body-facing side to provide a body-contacting portion disposed in a different plane from the plane of the body-facing side.

Absorbent products having flexible hydrophilic wick means

Novel facing materials and methods for their manufacture are provided by this invention. The facing material includes at least a fibrous top layer for engaging body fluid and a generally opaque middle layer. A portion of the facing material is disposed, preferably by piercing, through the generally opaque middle layer to establish a fluid path through the generally opaque middle layer. In the preferred embodiment, the facing material includes a bottom layer having a capillary structure for drawing the body fluid from the fibrous top layer. In this preferred embodiment, the fibrous top layer extends through the generally opaque middle layer to provide fluid communication between the fibrous top layer and the bottom layer. These composite structures provide a clean/dry facing material that has a comfort of a textile facing and the high opacity of apertured thermoplastic films.

There is disclosed the process of incorporating a deodorant powder (of various mechanisms of action) into a hydrophilic, swellable, water-insoluble absorbent crosslinked polymer, which swellable polymer is coated on a thin, flexible, substrate e.g. a non-woven web, a paper tissue, or a water-insensitive film, and the resultant flexible structures which contain the deodorant powders, held in a dust-free stable manner, and their use as one or more components of body fluid absorbent structures such as sanitary napkins.

Hydrophilic polymers for incorporating deodorants in absorbent structures

Improved hydrophilic materials, such as foams and films, are provided. These material find use in a wide variety of fluid absorbent products, especially those relating to the absorption of bodily fluids. The soft, absorbent, and resilient foams of this invention exhibit greater wet and dry mechanical strength when compared with those known in the art, as well as improved fluid wicking capacity and lower density. These improved properties are believed attributable to the incorporation into the foams of at least one polyfunctional aliphatic amine. The provided hydrophilic materials comprise the polymeric reaction product of a mixture which comprises at least one epoxy resin, at least one amine-terminated poly(alkylene oxide), and at least one polyfunctional aliphatic amine. Methods for preparing foams and other hydrophilic materials are also provided. In general, hydrophilic materials are prepared by providing at least one epoxy resin, forming a reaction mixture by contacting the epoxy resin with at least one amine-terminated poly(alkylene oxide) and at least one polyfunctional aliphatic amine, and curing the reaction mixture.

A composition, useful for forming absorbent articles of a carboxylic polyelectrolyte, is prepared by copolymerizing a carboxylic polyelectrolyte monomer, a reactive self-crosslinking monomer and a hydrophobic monomer. The composition in the form of an emulsion or a viscous solution has an extendable shelf life and may be used to produce a superabsorbent material or a substrate impregnated with a superabsorbent material.
