High resolution image projection system and method employing lasers

An apparatus is provided for delivering energy to a selected area on a surface. The apparatus includes an outlining mechanism which receives light from a light source and directs an aiming beam to a surface, an energy source direction modulator which receives energy from an energy source and directs the energy to the surface, and a controller which causes the outlining mechanism to move the aiming beam relative to the surface to form a visually continuous outline around an area of the surface and causes the energy source direction modulator to deliver energy within the area formed by the visually continuous outline. The apparatus can also include an operator selectable activation mechanism which the apparatus requires to be continuously activated in order to deliver energy.

Apparatus for delivering energy within continuous outline

A method is provided for delivering energy to a selected area on a surface. The method includes forming a visually continuous outline on the surface, positioning the visually continuous outline such that the outline surrounds an area to be treated with energy, and delivering energy within the area surrounded by the visually continuous outline. The method may be used to deliver energy to any surface, including surfaces which need to be exposed prior to the delivery of energy. Examples of surfaces that may be treated with energy using the method and apparatus of the present invention include, but are not limited to skin, an exposed area of internal tissue such as muscle or fat tissue, and a surface in an oral cavity such as gum tissue or a tooth enamel. Examples of particular applications to which the method may be applied include, but are not limited to skin surface ablation, hair removal, hair implantation, gum ablation and disinfection, tooth enamel cleaning, fat tissue ablation for breast reduction, evaporation of severely burned tissue, drilling a hole in heart muscle, heating tissue for pain reduction, and the ablation of tumors within the body.

Method for delivering energy within continuous outline

A DC linear motor is cooled by providing a cooling duct extending transversely through the base mounting a coil. The coil is moveable along a track which is parallel to an extended permanent magnet. The cooling air is directed transversely along the width of the base. The compressed air passes through the duct and exits ports which extend transversely relative to the duct and the track. The air is ejected into the air gap between the permanent magnet and the coil.

The laser illuminated image producing system includes in one form of the invention, a single light valve which not only serves to form an image, but also to increase the number of its colors. In another form of the invention, the lasers are sequenced at high input energy for short intervals of time to provide high average output luminosity at lower average energy costs.

Laser illuminated image producing system and method of using same

An image projection system employing microlaser and/or diode laser arrays. Each laser in each array is individually addressable. The system includes three linear laser arrays, one red, one green, and one blue, each individually addressable laser being powered and modulated in accordance with the input image signal. When microlaser arrays, which are energized by laser diode pumps, are used, the laser diode pumps are formed in equivalent arrays. The laser output beams are combined in a dichroic prism and reflected off a rotating multifaceted scanning mirror which effects two dimensional scanning as it rotates. The image beam reflected from the scanner passes through an imaging lens, a speckle eliminator and then onto the projection screen. The invention also includes the method of generating and scanning the image beam, as well as the novel speckle eliminator and the microlaser array configured for optimally close spacing to achieve the desired result.
