A power supply detection apparatus includes a power sourcing equipment (PSE) circuit, a power supply module, and a reverse circuit. The PSE circuit is configured to send a first sounding electrical signal and a second sounding electrical signal to the reverse circuit. The reverse circuit outputs the first sounding electrical signal to a wire-pair group of an Ethernet cable, performs reverse processing on the second sounding electrical signal, and outputs a reverse-processed second sounding electrical signal to the wire-pair group. The PSE circuit is configured to determine, using the first sounding electrical signal, a forward sounding result of a to-be-detected device; and determine a reverse sounding result of the to-be-detected device based on the second sounding electrical signal. The power supply detection apparatus is configured to determine that the to-be-detected device is a non-PD when the forward sounding result or the reverse sounding result is a short circuit.

The detection module is configured to send a detection signal to the power supply channel to detect whether a peer device connected to the power supply channel is a valid powered device. The control switch is turned off in a detection process of the power supply channel. A network device includes a power system, a processor, a power sourcing equipment PSE chip coupled to a first forward power supply port, and a first powered device PD chip coupled to a first reverse power receiving port. A first powered device is connected to the first forward power supply port and the first reverse power receiving port. When detecting that a power failure occurs on the network device, the processor instructs the first PD chip to draw power from the first powered device; the first PD chip draws the power from the first powered device through the first reverse power receiving port, and supplies the obtained power to the power system. Therefore, when a power failure occurs, the network device can continue to obtain power and work properly when the power failure occurs.
