Various embodiments include methods and apparatuses for managing multiple memories on a multi-slot communication device as a single contiguous combined memory. The memories may include various types of universal serial bus (USB) and/or universal integrated circuit card (UICC) memories. Ranges of physical addresses of portions of each memory may be associated with a range of virtual addresses of the single contiguous combined memory. Associations of physical and virtual addresses may be stored on the multi-slot communication device. A single memory access request to the single contiguous combined memory may be made using the virtual addresses, translated into multiple memory access requests for the individual memories using the physical addresses. Memory accesses requests to the single contiguous combined memory may be made using a variety of communications protocols and translated such that at least one of the multiple memory access requests for the individual memories is made using USB communications protocols.

Enhanced storage option in multi-slot communications supporting USB UICC SIM cards

Methods and devices are disclosed for enabling efficient service acquisition on multiple SIMs of a multi-SIM device. After at least one SIM has maintained or reacquired a network connection, the wireless device may identify that network, access a joint acquisition database, and determine whether there is a correlated network entry showing a network from which service may be received on SIM-2. In this manner, the wireless device may automatically prioritize a network for a recovery scan on SIM-2, thereby overriding conventional priority given to the network that was most-recently-used by SIM-2.

System and methods for using wireless network correlations to acquire service on a multi-SIM device

Various embodiments enable recovering from an out-of-service state in a wireless device. A processor may perform scans of a first acquisition database to acquire a first renewed service connection for a first subscriber identification module (SIM). The scans include first and second searches for first and second channels identified in first and second technology lists, respectively, from the first acquisition database, respectively, until either a renewed service connection is acquired or each of the first and second technology lists are exhausted. The first and second technology lists identify channels from first and second radio access technologies. A currently used channel of a second SIM acquired service is first on the first technology list. The processor may perform a full frequency scan to acquire a first renewed service connection for the first SIM in response to determining that each of the first and second technology lists were exhausted.

Out-of-service recovery for a multi-SIM wireless device

Various embodiments implemented on a mobile communication device leverage the availability of multiple RATs to receive service from a combination of RATs that avoids the potential for inter-RAT coexistence interference. A mobile communication device processor may determine whether there is a likelihood of inter-RAT coexistence interference between a first RAT and a second RAT. In response to determining that there is a likelihood of interference occurring between the first RAT and the second RAT, the device processor may attempt to receive service with the first RAT and a third RAT that will not interfere with the first RAT. The device processor may monitor conditions to recognize when the likelihood of interference no longer exists between the first RAT and the second RAT, and reestablish service with the second RAT when that happens. Thus, the device processor may ensure that service is only acquired with non-interfering RATs.

Avoidance of interference during simultaneous multi-active technologies in global mode

Methods and devices are disclosed for enabling efficient network registration using a shared radio resource for at least a first and second SIM of a multi-SIM wireless communication device. An overall priority-based ranking may be calculated for each SIM of the multi-SIM device, which may be used to determine an preferred order for the SIMs to register for services in their respective networks. Calculating the overall priority-based ranking for each SIM may include determining values for a service capability priority factor, an attachment time factor, and a sleep cycle duration factor.

System and methods for improving network registration for all SIMs of a multi-SIM device using a dynamically-determined registration order

The various embodiments include methods and apparatuses for providing multiple memories on a multi-slot communication device or on a multi-slot communication device and a wireless device as a single, contiguous, combined memory. The memories may include various types of universal serial bus (USB) and/or universal integrated circuit card (UICC) memories. Ranges of physical addresses of portions of each memory may be associated with a range of virtual addresses of the combined memory. Providing memory access requests to a memory on the wireless device may be accomplished by connecting to the memory on the wireless device over a wireless network by the multi-slot communication device.

Methods, devices, and systems embodiments enable management of service preemption of at least one of a plurality of subscriptions that utilize a plurality of radio-frequency (RF) chains on a multi-Subscriber-Identity-Module, multi-active communication device in a manner that can accommodate a variety of different RF hardware components and configurations. Various embodiments provide methods implemented by a processor to manage service preemption. In response to detecting that a service of a second subscription initiated on a first RF chain is or will preempt a service of a first subscription that is also serviced by the first RF chain, the processor may determine whether there is a similar service on a second RF chain that may be used as a substitute for the first subscription's preempted service and, when available, the processor may configure the first subscription to begin utilizing the substitute service until the first RF chain is available.

Methods and devices are disclosed for enabling efficient network registration using a shared radio resource for at least a first and second SIM of a multi-SIM wireless communication device. After the end of a radio-off condition of the radio resource, the wireless device may identify services supported by each of the first and second SIMs, evaluate criticality of the supported services, determine which of the first and second SIM supports the service having the highest criticality, and prevent the other SIM from registering with its network before the SIM with the service of the highest criticality has successfully registered for service in its selected network.

Mobility detection and system acquisition in dual standby dual subscriber identity modules (DSDS)

A mobile communication device includes a domain selection feature that allows a user to select a domain preference such as a circuit switched (CS) voice domain preference, a packet switched (PS) data domain preference, or a (CS+PS) domain preference. The mobile device receives Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) ID and domain availability information from one or more PLMNs. A PLMN priority list is generated on the basis of the received PLMN information and the user domain preference selection. PLMNs having the user selected service available are assigned a higher priority than those that don't currently have the service, whereby an original PLMN list may be updated. Thereby, the mobile device is more likely to obtain the desired service without resorting to a time consuming manual selection process.

Disclosed are systems, methods and computer program products for better system reselection (BSR) in a multi-system wireless communication environment. In one aspect, the BSR procedure provisions a mobile device to determine if a currently-registered wireless communication system is the most-preferred system among systems of a similar technology and among systems of different technologies identified in the device's combined preferred roaming list (PRL). The mobile device then activates an intra-system BSR timer if the currently-registered system is not the most-preferred system among systems of similar technology and an inter-system BSR timer if the currently-registered system is not the most-preferred system among systems of different technologies. Upon expiration of the intra-system BSR timer, the mobile device searches for a more-preferred system among systems of similar technology. Upon expiration of the inter-system BSR timer, the mobile device searches for a more-preferred system among systems of different technologies.

Better system reselection in multi-system wireless communication environment

A mobile communication device prior to establishing a communication session needs first to connect to a reachable network. To facilitate the search for the reachable network, the mobile communication device is preprogrammed intermediate parameters which lead to a plurality of reachable networks that are preselected based on a predetermined criterion.
