An apparatus, and corresponding method, for determining a refractive property of an eye includes a housing with a port configured to receive an eye and also light from the eye. A tunable lens can be mounted to the housing to apply a variable focal power to the light from the eye and to pass the light along an optical path toward a wavefront sensor within the housing. The wavefront sensor can receive the light via the optical path and measure a wavefront thereof. A determination module can be configured to determine a property of the eye based on the wavefront. Embodiments can be handheld, portable, and open view, while providing objective wavefront aberrometry, subjective phoroptry, and accommodation and presbyoptic evaluation, as well as lensometry functions.

Tunable-lens-based refractive examination

Eye prescriptions may be determined by providing a simple, easy to use, portable device with a specially configured targeting light source that aligns the eye, mitigates accommodation, and provides accurate results. Unlike stationary, closed view autorefractors, this device typically is portable, self-usable, relatively inexpensive, enabling more widespread use across the world.

High-contrast, high-density cell-sized microparticles are introduced into a cell-containing solution prior to the solution being spread onto a planar substrate for imaging. A method and system for acquiring a series of medical images includes acquiring imaging data, identifying double coincidence events and multiple detection (MD) coincidence events from the imaging data, and storing the double coincidence events and the MD coincidence events in a first dataset and a second dataset, respectively. The method also includes applying a normalization correction to the first dataset and/or the second dataset using normalization values based on double coincidence events and/or MD coincidence events to obtain at least one normalized dataset, and reconstructing a series of medical images of the subject from the at least one normalized dataset.

A method and system for acquiring a series of medical images includes receiving medical imaging data corresponding to photons emitted from a subject having received a dose of a radiotracer. Determining, from the medical imaging data, coincidence events including photon coincidence events involving two photons and photon coincidence events involving more than two photons. The photon coincidence events involving two photons and photon coincidence events involving more than two photons are processed and use to reconstruct a series of medical images of the subject.

Inter-detector scatter enhanced emission tomography

Non-uniformities in substrate thickness and surface topography contribute significantly to the need for auto-focusing on a sample deposited thereon. These auto-focusing needs can be reduced or eliminated by measuring and storing substrate surface topography for later retrieval by an imaging system that can use the topographic information to help set appropriate focal parameters. These steps can be done in advance of an imaging experiment to reduce focus-related delays during the experiment. Topographic information can be stored, for example, in a database, associated with a representation of a unique substrate identifier; entry of the representation retrieves the topographic information. As another example, topographic information can be stored in an encoding device associated with the substrate.

Substrate pre-scanning for high throughput microscopy

Among other aspects, the present invention provides for the deposition of biological particles, such as cells, in a liquid, in a desired two-dimensional pattern on a planar surface of a substrate so as to permit rapid, simple, and sensitive detection of cells and/or sub-cellular components (e.g., proteins, biomarkers) disposed on the substrate. A method and system for acquiring a series of medical images includes a plurality of detectors configured to be arranged to acquire gamma rays emitted from a subject as a result of an advanced radionuclide administered to the subject and communicate signals corresponding to acquired gamma rays. A data processing system is configured to receive the signals from the plurality of detectors, determine double coincidence event dataset and a multiple coincidence event dataset, separate the multiple coincidence event dataset into at least one of a standard lines of response dataset and a nonstandard lines of response dataset, and apply a background correction to the double coincidence event dataset based on the non-standard lines of response dataset and/or the standard lines of response dataset to obtain a standard coincidence dataset.

System and method to improve image quality of emission tomography when using advanced radionuclides

System for scatter-based differentiation of cells. The system includes a planar substrate having cells disposed thereon for imaging and a microscope employing relatively low magnification detection optics providing a wide field of view focused on the cells on the substrate and defining a microscope optical axis. An illuminator delivers light to the ceils on the substrate focused to a spot larger than the field of view of the microscope, the illuminator having an illumination optical axis highly oblique to the microscope optical axis wherein scattered light is collected by the microscope. A detection system receives the scattered light from the microscope to provide a measure of signal intensity and a measure of size for each cell for discrimination of cell type.
