There is herein disclosed a network node of a wireless communication system. The network node has means for selecting a first group of cells. Each cell of the first group of cells is a secondary cell, SCell, for carrier aggregation, CA, on a user equipment, UE, of the wireless communication system. The network node has means for obtaining a first set of labelled data for the first group of cells. The labelled data includes performance information regarding the first group of cells. The network node has means for training a machine learning model for the first group of cells using the first set of labelled data. The machine learning model is configured to be implemented on the network node of the wireless communication system for SCell selection. The network node has means for determining whether the machine learning model meets a performance criteria for at least one cell of the first group of cells.

Secondary cell selection

Various communication systems may benefit from adaptive handling of communication loads. For example, certain wireless communication systems may benefit from a method and application programming interface between a radio access network and a controller to optimize inter-frequency load balancing (IFLB). A method can include receiving policy inputs regarding how the IFLB should be operated. The method can also include negotiating a functional split of IFLB-related functions for the purposes of executing inter-frequency load-balancing. The method can further include receiving a set of data/attributes related to facilitate determination of optimal settings for IFLB.

Radio access network controller methods and systems to optimize inter frequency load balancing

An apparatus including an input configured to receive at least one notification from at least one radio access network node controller, the at least one notification caused to notify the apparatus of at least one physical channel assignment policy indication; an assigner configured to implement at least one physical channel assignment based on the at least one physical channel assignment policy indication; an output configured to generate and transmit at least one assignment notification to at least one user equipment associated with the apparatus, the assignment notification caused to notify the at least one user equipment of the at least one physical channel assignment.

Resource allocation policy signaling

A method and apparatus for estimating and/or predicting mobility metric(s) for RAN optimization. One method includes receiving a request, from at least one RAN optimization service, to provide an estimate or prediction of a mobility metric for at least one UE or group of UEs or at least one cell. The request may include attributes describing characteristics of the mobility metric. The method may then include communicating with a RAN node to request data about the at least one UE or the group of UEs or the at least one cell associated with the request, receiving the requested data, and calculating the estimate or the prediction of the mobility metric using the requested data and based on the attributes received in the request from the at least one RAN optimization service.
