Disclosed embodiments relate, generally, to improved data reception handling at a physical layer. Some embodiments relate to end of line systems that include legacy media access control (MAC) devices and PHY devices that implement improved data reception handling disclosed herein. The improved data reception handling improves the operation of legacy systems, and the MAC more specifically, and in some cases to comply with media access tuning protocols implemented at the physical layer.

Physical layer to link layer interface and related systems, methods and devices

Described is a digital interface and related systems, method and devices. In some embodiments, an interface may be an interface between a link layer and a physical transmission medium. The interface may be configured for a bit rate and/or reference clock that limits electromagnetic emissions (EME), for example, as compared to a bit rate and/or clock rate specified by interfaces widely used in industry.

Ethernet interface and related systems methods and devices

A communication system and method is provided herein for synchronizing a plurality of network nodes after a network lock condition occurs within a network. According to one embodiment, the method may generate a local trigger signal simultaneously at each of the plurality of network nodes by compensating for unique phase delays attributed to each of the plurality of network nodes. As described herein, the local trigger signals may be used for synchronizing devices, such as multimedia devices, which may be coupled to the network nodes. More specifically, the local trigger signals may be used to synchronize events occurring within devices, which are coupled to different nodes of the network.

Communication system and method for synchronizing a plurality of network nodes after a network lock condition occurs

A communication system, source and destination ports of the communication system, and methodology is provided for transporting data in one of possibly three different ways. Data is transported across the network at a frame sample rate that can be the same as or different from the sample rate or master clock within the source port or the destination port. If the sample rate of the source port is known, the sample rate of the destination port can be created using a PLL within the destination port and simply employing a phase comparator in the source port. The phase comparator forwards the phase or frequency difference of the network transfer rate and the source sample rate to the destination port, which then generates a local clock equivalent to the source which then compiles audio data being played at the same rate in which it was sampled at the source. Where economically feasible, sample rate conversion can be used at the source. However, sample rate conversion at the destination is preferred if the source sample rate is forwarded across the network relative to the frame transfer rate of the synchronous network. The sample rate converter simply produces a play rate from the transmitted information at the destination. Again, however, sample rate conversion compares relative phase difference changes similar to the phase difference compared in the digital PLL mode. As a further alternative, sample rates within the source and destination ports can be derived from the network frame rate using fractional dividers in the source and destination ports.
