Methods and apparatuses for preventing the unauthorized use and display of sensitive information contained within search results or within documents that are linked to by search results or electronic messages are described. A permissions-aware search and knowledge management system may continuously scan the content of documents and messages indexed by the system and detect that a document shared by link contains sensitive information. In response to detecting that the document has been accessed by at least a first number of different users or has the ability to be accessed by at least a second number of different users, the permissions-aware search and knowledge management system may adjust file permissions, adjust access control lists, selectively disable links to the document, and/or perform content redactions for the document such that some system users do not have the ability to view or access the sensitive information within the document.

A system and method for monitoring and optimizing work assistant search engines implemented within secured enterprise computing systems include one or more processing devices to receive diagnostic data of a work assistant search engine from a secured enterprise computing system. The one or more processing devices may further determine, by analyzing the diagnostic data, a search quality metric value associated with the feature values and the scores. The permissions-aware search and knowledge management system may enable content stored across a variety of local and cloud-based data stores to be indexed, searched, and displayed to authorized users. The identification and ranking of relevant documents corresponding with a user's search query may take into account user suggested results from the user and others assigned to the same group as the user, whether the underlying content of a search result was verified by a content owner as being up-to-date, the amount of time that has passed since the underlying content was verified by the content owner, and the recent activity of the user and related group members.
