An approach is provided for generating synthetic ground truth drive and sensor observation data. The approach, for instance, receiving, by a processor, a first input specifying ground truth data indicating one or more ground truth locations of one or more map features. The approach also involves receiving a second input specifying one or more simulation characteristics. The approach further involves generating simulated drive data based on the ground truth data and the one or more simulation characteristics. For example, the simulated drive data includes (a) one or more simulated drive paths within a region of interest encompassing the one or more ground truth locations and (b) one or more simulated sensor observations of the one or more map features. The approach further involves providing the simulated drive data as an output.

Method, apparatus, and system for generating synthetic ground truth drive and sensor observation data

A method, apparatus, and computer program product are provided for identifying on-street parking from aerial imagery. A method may include: receiving an aerial image of a geographic region; applying an object detection algorithm to the received aerial image to identify vehicle objects within the aerial image; identifying one or more clusters of vehicle objects within the aerial image; generating cluster lines for the one or more clusters of vehicle objects; map matching the cluster lines for the one or more clusters of vehicle objects to a map of the geographic region; and identifying on-street parking for a road segment in response to a cluster line of the cluster lines for the one or more clusters of vehicle objects satisfying predetermined criteria with respect to the road segment.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for identifying street parking based on aerial imagery

An approach is provided for comparing and assimilating road lane representations. The approach, for example, receiving two cartographic feature representations (e.g., digital road lane representations). The approach also involves computing a geometric similarity between the cartographic representations. The approach further involves processing attribute data associated with the cartographic feature representations to determine a semantic relationship between the representations. The approach further involves generating a recommendation with respect to assimilating the representations based on the geometric similarity and the semantic relationship, and providing the recommendation as an output.

Method, apparatus, and system for comparing and assimilating road lane representations using geospatial data and attribute data

A method, apparatus, and computer program product are provided for determining a location of on-street parking. The method includes receiving a plurality of individual probe points along a section of a roadway. Each individual probe point is associated with a location where each probe point was captured by one of one or more vehicles on the section of the roadway. The method also includes selecting one or more of the plurality of individual probe points based on a speed of the one or more vehicles associated with each probe point at a time the probe point was captured. The method further includes comparing the location of the selected probe points with a known roadway representation. Based on the comparison, the method also includes determining one or more groupings of a plurality of potential parking spaces along the section of the roadway. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are provided.
