The random copolymer can be in the crosslinked form through the pendent ethylenical unsaturation and can also be in the form of a blend of the copolymer with a thermoplastic polymer compatible therewith. The crosslinking can be conducted on the blend of the random copolymer with the thermoplastic polymer, and can also be conducted under the conditions that the random copolymer and/or the thermoplastic polymer are/is foamed whereby the crosslinked product is obtained as a foam.

A process for producing a foam comprising subjecting a foaming composition to foaming conditions, said foaming composition comprising (A) from 1 to 99% by weight, based on the total weight of (A) and (B), of a random copolymer comprising units derived from propylene, from 0.1 to 15 mol % of units derived from a non-conjugated diene represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, and R.sup.5 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms; and n represents a number of from 2 to 10, and, if desired, up to 4 mol % of units derived from ethylene, said random copolymer having a degree of crystallinity of at least 20% as measured by X-ray diffractometry, a melt flow rate of from 0.01 to 200 g/10 min as measured according to ASTM D1238-1986, and an elastic modulus of from 1,000 to 15,000 kg/cm.sup.2 as measured according to JIS K-7203, and (B) from 99 to 1% by weight, based on the total weight of (A) and (B), of a homopolymer of an .alpha.-olefin having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms or a copolymer mainly comprising said .alpha.-olefin, wherein the melting point of the minor resin component (A) or (B) is less than 15.degree. C. higher than that of the major resin component (A) or (B), and the ratio of the melt flow rate of resin component (A) to that of (B) is between 0.02 and 50, utilizes a foaming composition having a low melt viscosity and provides a uniform foam having a uniform cell size and a high foaming rate.

Process for producing plastic foam

Disclosed is a thermoplastic resin composition formed by melt-kneading at a temperature of 300.degree. to 340.degree. C. a composition comprising (a) 10 to 95% by weight of a polyphenylene sulfide resin; (b) 90 to 5% by weight of a crystalline resin composed mainly of 3-methyl-1-butene, each of the amount of the components (a) and (b) being based on the sum of the components (a) and (b); (c) 5 to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the sum of the components (a) and (b) of a partially hydrogenated alkenyl aromatic compound-conjugated diene copolymer; and (d) up to 150 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the sum of the components (a) and (b) of a fibrous filler. In this composition, the poor moldability of the polyphenylene sulfide resin is improved and the poor rigidity at a high temperature of the 3-methyl-1-butene polymer is improved, and excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance and mechanical strength inherently possessed by both the resins are retained.

An unsaturated copolymer of propylene and the branched diene which is 6-methyl-1,6-octadiene and/or 7-methyl-1,6-octadiene, and optionally, ethylene is produced by a two-step process wherein in a first polymerization step homopolymerization of propylene is conducted until the propylene polymer amounts to 0.01 to 10% by weight of the total and final copolymer, and in a second polymerization step the random copolymerization of propylene, 6-methyl-1,6-octadiene and/or 7-methyl-1,6-octadiene, and optionally, ethylene is then conducted as a continuation of the first step polymerization, whereby a copolymer of a specified characteristics is produced.

Process for producing unsaturated copolymers

A polymer prepared by subjecting to conditions of radical graft polymerization a copolymer of an .alpha.-olefin and an aliphatic nonconjugated diene and a monomer that is capable of radical polymerization with said copolymer is described. This polymer has high miscibility with a dissimilar resin and has a high practical value for use as a compatibilizing agent in blending two or more resins.

Unsaturated copolymer resin composite

A novel block copolymer consisting essentially of ethylene and propylene and comprising 1 to 20 parts by weight of block (A) having an ethylene content of 0 to 4% by weight, 5 to 49 parts by weight of block (B) having an ethylene content of more than 4% and less than 25% by weight, and 50 to 94 parts by weight of block (C) having an ethylene content of 25 to 85% by weight. The block copolymer is characterized by less formation of flow marks in molding, and also has excellent tensile characteristics.

Olefinic block copolymers containing three blocks

A modified copolymer prepared by modifying an unsaturated copolymer resin comprising at least one .alpha.-olefin having 2 to 12 carbon atoms and at least one 1,4-dienes represented by formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are defined as hereinbefore, thereby to introduce a hydroxyl group or epoxy group into at least 1% of an olefinically unsaturated bond in the resin. This copolymer has excellent printability and adhesive properties and also has a good durability.

A foaming resin composition comprising an unsaturated random copolymer consisting of propylene, ethylene, and a branched 1,4-diene represented by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents an alkyl group having not more than 8 carbon atoms; and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having not more than 8 carbon atoms, provided that R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 do not simultaneously represent a hydrogen atom, and a chemical foaming agent. The composition is prevented from increasing in temperature due to shearing during molding into a foamable sheet and, therefore, provides a uniform foamed product.
