A rotary head type digital signal reproducing apparatus controls tracking of rotary magnetic heads based on tracking reference signals obtained in an end portion of a first scan and in a beginning portion of a second scan immediately after the first scan, out of successive first through fourth scans made by the rotary magnetic heads with respect to two mutually adjacent tracks on the magnetic tape, when playing the magnetic tape which has been recorded in a half-speed mode. In the half-speed mode, a rotational speed of the rotary magnetic heads and a tape transport speed of the magnetic tape are set to speed which are one-half those in a standard mode. But when playing on the reproducing apparatus the magnetic tape which has been recorded in the half-speed mode, only the tape transport speed is set identical to that in the half-speed mode, and the rotational speed of the rotary magnetic heads is set identical to that in the standard mode.

A digital signal recording and reproducing apparatus for recording an input digital signal on a recording medium to reproduce it therefrom, comprising first means for recording the same identification code as an identification number particular to the digital signal recording and reproducing apparatus when the input digital signal has a specified sampling frequency at the time of recording, and second means for reproducing the recorded identification code at the time of reproduction, thus permitting the digital signal recorded on the recording medium to be reproduced only when the reproduced identification code is coincident with the identification number particular to the apparatus.

Apparatus and method for recording and reproducing a digital signal

This invention relates to DAT (Digital Audio Tape) equipment. On the magnetic tape, a multiple signal comprising a pulse code modulated sound data of a fixed period obtained by applying pulse code modulation to an audio signal, subcodes time-divisionally multiplexed before and after the pulse code modulated sound data by predetermined time periods, respectively, and a track finding signal is recorded. This recorded signal is allocated onto tracks formed in succession on the magnetic tape by the rotary head and is recorded in a first mode, or in a second mode where its data capacity per unit time is nearly one half of that in the first mode, and a revolving speed of the rotary head and a magnetic tape running speed are nearly one half of those in the first mode. ATF (Automatic Track Finding) signals are included in the recorded signal and are used for tracking control. A circuit arrangement for this ATF signal is provided, which permits only one of the plural kinds of ATF signals to be utilized so that an excellent reproduction can be performed even when the DAT equipment is switched from recording to reproducing mode. When the subcodes are subjected to over-write recording, tracking control is carried out by one ATF signal of the respective reproduced signals obtained by applying one scanning onto a recording track on the magnetic tape using the rotary head.

A rotary head type type digital signal reproducing apparatus plays a magnetic tape which is pre-recorded with a tracking reference signal in predetermined starting and ending portions of each track which is formed obliquely to the longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape and with a digital audio signal in an intermediate portion between the starting and ending portions of each track. When playing a magnetic tape pre-recorded in a half-speed mode, only the tape transport speed is set identical to that at the time of the recording. A tracking control is carried out based on tracking reference signals reproduced during predetermined two successive scans out of four successive scans made with respect to every two mutually adjacent tracks.
