There is provided an ozone generating apparatus that requires no use of cooling water, is small in size and easy in maintenance. The ozone generating apparatus includes a ground electrodeformed of a substantially cylindrical metal tube, and a high voltage electrodehaving a substantially cylindrical dielectric body substantially concentrically arranged inside the ground electrode, and having a high voltage applied to an electrically conductive layerformed on an inner peripheral surface thereof, in which an oxygen-containing gas is supplied into an electric discharge gap formed between the ground electrode and the high voltage electrode to generate ozone, wherein the ground electrode is formed integrally with plural air cooling finsextending in a longitudinal direction at an outer peripheral side thereof.

Ozone generating apparatus

Making a larger difference in water activity between electrodes elevates an output voltage of an electrochemical element. The electrochemical element includes a solid electrolyte membranemade of a solid electrolyte and possessing a hydrogen ion conductivity, a first electrodeformed on one side of the solid electrolyte membraneand functioning as a catalyst and possessing a hydrophilic property, and a second electrodeformed on the other side of the solid electrolyte membraneand functioning as a catalyst and possessing a water-repellent property.

Electrochemical element and electrochemical element apparatus

A gas sensor which can be used for measuring a low concentration repeatedly, which has a quick response and which can be used for a long time with high stability is provided. The gas sensor comprises a solid electrolyte, a detecting electrode provided in contact with one of the surfaces of the solid electrolyte and exposed to a gas to be detected, a counter electrode, provided in contact with the other surface of the solid electrolyte, and lead wires to place an electric voltage across both electrodes or to take out electric signals, wherein an inactive substance which is hard to form a reaction product with the gas to be detected is used as a material to constitute both electrodes.

Gas sensor

A water evaporation type cooling system equipped with a hermetically sealed housing and a solid electrolytic membrane placed to divide the hermetically sealed housing into first and second hermetically sealed spaces. Water is reservoired within the first hermetically sealed space, while a condenser is situated to communicate with the second hermetically sealed space. A direct-current voltage is applied to the solid electrolytic membrane, with the result that a water electrolytic reaction takes place on its first hermetically sealed space side surface, while a water production reaction occurs on its second hermetically sealed space side surface. Protons produced by the water electrolysis pass through the solid electrolytic membrane to contribute to a water production reaction. Steam within the first hermetically sealed space is transferred to the second hermetically sealed space whereas the oxygen within the second hermetically sealed space is shifted to the first hermetically sealed space. Thus, the humidity within the first hermetically sealed space falls to accelerate the evaporation of the water reservoired within the first hermetically sealed space, thereby inducing a temperature drop.

An interfacial component detection apparatus has a plurality of electrodes spaced from one another on a first solid portion and a solid electrolytic layer on the first solid portion adjacent to an interfacial layer and covering the plurality of electrodes. An I/O device applies an electrical signal between the two electrodes and detects electrical signals from the electrodes. Components of the interfacial layer can be accurately and reliably detected by electrolysis and impedance measurements.

A gas detector for detecting the decomposed SF.sub.6 gas produced by discharge in gas-insulated equipment. The gas detector operates as a cell generating voltage in proportion to the amount of the decomposed SF.sub.6 gas wherein the voltage is generated between the detection electrode including Ag, reacting upon contact by the decomposed gas and the opposing electrode including Ag also, both electrodes sandwiching the ionic conductive solid electrolyte layer including Ag ion therebetween.

Gas detector

An air conditioning method and apparatus for electrochemically regulating a humidity and an oxygen-concentration within a case by the use of an ion exchanger polymer electrolyte. Where the humidity and the oxygen-concentration within the case are reduced, a cell comprising an anode, a cathode and an anion exchanger polymer electrolyte sandwiched between both the electrodes is arranged so that a surface of the anode is in contact with an atmospheric air outside the case and a surface of the cathode is in contact with an ambient atmosphere inside the case and DC voltage is applied between both the electrodes. On the other hand, where the humidity and the oxygen-concentration within the case are increased, the cell having the similar construction is arranged so that the surface of the anode is in contact with the ambient atmosphere inside the case and the surface of the cathode is in contact with the atmospheric air outside the case and DC voltage is applied between both the electrodes.

Dehumidifier and method of using

A gas detector, which has a memory function for detected data, such as the quantity of decomposed SF.sub.6 gas, is for always watching whether electric discharging in the gas-insulated substation occurs or not, and comprises the laminated layers having a detecting electrode, a first conductive solid electrolyte, a polarization electrode, a second conductive solid electrolyte and a reference electrode.

A humidity controller has a humidity controlling element disposed in the opening of a chamber and comprising a hydrogen ion conductor membrane, porous electrodes disposed on two surfaces of the hydrogen ion conductor membrane and collecting electrodes disposed on opposite surfaces of the porous electrodes. Each of the collecting electrodes is disposed over an area than the whole area of each surface of the hydrogen ion conductor membrane such that the current density at a portion of the hydrogen ion conductor membrane where no collecting electrode is located is reduced by at most 1/2, thereby reducing the stress due to the difference between the thermal expansion coefficients of the porous electrodes and the collecting electrodes and limiting disconnection between these two groups of electrodes. The difference between the humidity control performance of this humidity controller and that of an arrangement in which collecting electrodes are disposed over the whole surfaces of the porous electrodes is small.

Humidity controller

The present invention relates to a magnetic disc apparatus having a dehumidifying element for removing the moisture flowing from a vent into the apparatus, and the magnetic disc apparatus according to the present invention is provided with a dehumidifying element having a humidity controlling element comprising a hydrogen ion conductor and a pair of porous filmy electrodes which sandwich the conductor therebetween. Applying the voltage to the humidity controlling element, the moisture in the apparatus, after contacting the electrode provided on the central side of the apparatus, is supplied to a hydrogen ion conductor and electrolyzed. The hydrogen ions obtained by electrolysis move toward the electrode provided on the peripheral side of the apparatus, where at least either of the hydrogen or water is evolved to advance the dehumidification in the apparatus. Thus the magnetic disc apparatus according to the present invention is capable of resolving and removing stably the moisture in the apparatus and keeping a constant humidity in the apparatus irrespective of the humidity in the outside air.

Dehumidifier for magnetic disc apparatus

Apparatus for regulating the humidity inside a semi-sealed, partly air-permeable container for a magnetic disk drive. An opening provided in the semi-sealed container is sealed by an insulated humidity regulating element which includes a hydrogen ion conductor (which may be a solid electrolyte) and porous film-like first and second electrodes that are bonded to respective surfaces of both sides of the hydrogen ion conductor. A DC voltage is impressed across both electrodes to regulate the humidity.

Humidity regulating apparatus for magnetic disk drive

A floating magnetic head has two or more slider portions with floating surfaces formed thereon generally in parallel with a plane on which a magnetic disk rotates. The magnetic head body has grooves formed between the adjacent slider portions in a facing relation with a recording surface of the magnetic disk. Water removing members are formed in at least a portion of the grooves and the floating surfaces of the slider portions for removing water formed on the magnetic disk surface by electrolyzing the water. The water removing member comprises a cathode electrode, a proton-conductive solid laminated on the cathode electrode, an anode electrode laminated on the proton-conductive solid and facing the surface of the magnetic disk. Water films formed in the gaps between the surface of the magnetic disk and the floating surfaces of the slider portions are removed by electrolysis effected by the water removing members.

Floating magnetic head

An apparatus for preventing biofouling caused by deposition and propagation of shellfish and algae in a cooling water system using sea water or river water for example, in a power plant, by periodically feeding ozone at high concentration to the system. An ozonizer is combined with an ozone-adsorbing and desorbing device so as to store ozone by adsorbing of an adsorbent and for a long time at lower temperature and desorbing ozone by periodically sucking at higher temperature if desired, by a water ejector.
