A friction plate for a wet-type multiplate clutch provided with a core plate and friction linings fixed on opposite sides of the core plate, respectively. Each of the friction linings is formed such that at a section thereof located on a side radially inner than a radial center line thereof, the friction lining has a thickness that gradually increases from an inner circumferential portion of the section toward an outer circumferential portion of the section.

Friction plate for wet-type multiplate clutch

In a lockup clutch assembly for use in a torque converter, a friction lining attached to one of a clutch piston and a front cover of the torque converter is divided into an outer-circumference-side friction lining and an inner-circumference-side friction lining. The outer-circumference-side friction lining contains as a filler diatomaceous earth in a higher proportion than the inner-circumference-side friction lining.

Lockup clutch assembly

In the starting clutch, an electrical pump or an engine pump is omitted and a substitutive pump mechanism is obtained with a simple construction thereby to circulate lubricating oil within the starting clutch. There is provided a starting clutch in which lubricating oil supplied form a drive shaft side is circulated within the clutch and input side elements and output side elements are tightened by an axial load to transmit a power and wherein a non-electrically operated pump mechanism is provided within the starting clutch.

A starting clutch includes a planetary mechanism; a first clutch for outputting a torque to an outer diameter portion of the planetary mechanism; a second clutch for outputting the torque to an intermediate portion of the planetary mechanism; and a lock mechanism for locking a reactive force from an inner diameter portion of the planetary mechanism.

The present invention provides a starting clutch in which an input side element and an output side element are joined together by applying an axial load thereby to transmit a power, which clutch comprises an urging device for always providing the axial load, and a releasing device for releasing the input side element and the output side element from the axial load.

A spring damper device includes cylindrical outer coil springs and inner springs inserted in the outer coil springs, respectively. The cylindrical outer coil springs are held in the form of arcs of a circle at angular intervals therebetween by a retainer plate, whereas the inner springs have a length shorter than the outer coil springs so that the inner springs are actuated a predetermined angle later compared with their corresponding outer coil springs. Each of the inner springs has a diameter smaller at opposite end portions thereof than at a central portion thereof.

In a lock-up piston and damper device for a torque converter, a divider member is provided between the retainer plate and the lock-up piston for supporting springs of an internal circumference in series with springs of an external circumference, thereby obtaining a large torsion angle.
