A multi-focus optical sensing device for use in bar code scanners, photoelectric sensors and the like is disclosed. To extend the range of detection along the optical axis, without increasing the detection time, the focal point of the light beam is caused to move along the optical axis. A control and modulation circuit varies a current I.sub.f which drives an optical semiconductor serving as a light source. This changes the focal distance of a refraction lattice and so causes the focal position of the light beam emitted by light source to scan along the optical axis. This scan is repeated each time a polygonal mirror scans the light beam over the narrowest width 1/n (where n is an integer) of the bar code lines. A processing unit samples and processes the signal from a photodetector unit while the light beam is being scanned along the optical axis.

Multi-focus optical device

An imaging device is formed by a transparent substrate having opposite surfaces on which are formed a plurality of micro aspherical lenses. The axes of the lenses on one surface coincide with the axes of respective lenses on the other surface. A two-dimensional micro lens array constructed by arranging converging lenses having a diameter of approximately several to several hundred micrometers is arranged ahead of a light source, thereby forming a multi-beam spot caused by diffraction in a distant position. A three-dimensional shape can be recognized with high precision by shape recognition means utilizing this multi-beam spot.

Micro aspherical lens and fabricating method therefor and optical device

The present invention involves a corrective optical lens construction and process for its manufacture. The lens construction consists of a glass lens having a corrective layer consisting of a blazed grating of annuli whose angles are formed to correct aberrations in the glass lens. In a first embodiment, the corrective layer is formed on one convex surface of the lens. In a second embodiment, the corrective layer is formed on a second convex surface of the lens. Embodiments also describe alternative lens shapes and corrective layer construction. A method of manufacturing the lens is also disclosed in which the resin corrective layer is molded to the glass lens.

Optical lens

A light emitting semiconductor device including a light emitting element, an optical element for condensing, collimating or diverging a ray emitted from the light emitting element which is packaged as a single unit with the light emitting element, and a cap molded by a fiber reinforced resin for supporting the light emitting element, the cap having an opening for a light emitting window which is provided with the optical element.

Light emitting semiconductor device having an optical element

The invention provides a thin-profile displacement signal output device. The device comprises a first member having a periodic pattern consisting of alternating high-transmittance and low-transmittance regions, a second member having a periodic pattern consisting of alternating high-reflectance regions, a light emitting source for emitting a detection light beam and a light-receiver for receiving the reflected light, the first member and second member facing each other and spaced apart by a distance which is smaller than the pitch of the periodic pattern, the light-emitting source and light receiver means being both disposed on one side of said first member which is opposite to the side on which said second member is disposed, and the first and second member being displaceable relative to each other.

Displacement signal output device

A device for processing optical data comprising a transparent substrate for a light to be applied, light source for projecting the diverging light onto one surface of the substrate substantially perpendicularly to the surface, lens provided on the substrate for causing the projected light to emerge obliquely or vertically upward from the other surface of the substrate and focusing the emergent light, photodetector provided on the substrate for receiving the light reflected from above, focusing drive mechanism for adjusting the position of the substrate upward or downward, and tracking drive mechanism for adjusting the position of the substrate laterally.

Device for processing optical data

An electron-beam resist is applied over a substrate so as to have a thickness larger than the maximum thickness of a micro aspherical lens to be fabricated, a predetermined pattern is written on this resist by electron-beam lithography and then, the resist is developed, thereby to fabricate a micro aspherical lens or the prototype thereof. Consequently, a micro aspherical lens causing little on-axis aberration and chromatic aberration and having a diameter of 1 millimeter or less can be achieved with high precision. In addition, the micro aspherical lens can be produced in large quantity because the reproduction thereof is relatively easy. Furthermore, an optical fiber coupling device, a focusing optical system, an optical device, a semiconductor laser light source, an image device or the like can be constructed using the micro aspherical lens thus fabricated. Finally, a micro lens array constructed by arranging converging lenses having a diameter of approximately several to several hundred micrometers in a two-dimensional manner is used and this micro lens array is arranged ahead of a light source, thereby forming a multi-beam spot caused by diffraction in a distant position. A three-dimensional shape can be recognized with high precision by shape recognition means utilizing this multi-beam spot.

In a reflective photosensor in which a light emitting element and a light receiving element are disposed in a mold resin, a planar optical element (micro Fresnel lens) including a first lens section for projecting a light emitted from the light emitting element toward a sense object in an external space and a second lens section for introducing a reflection light reflected from the sense object to the light receiving element is arranged in the mold resin. Favorably, the light emitting element is a light emitting diode of an edge emitting type and is set in a posture in which the element lies on its side. A reflection mirror is disposed in the model resin to introduce a light emitted from the light emitting diode to the first lens section.
