A resin composition comprising 5 to 95 parts by weight of a saponified product of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (A) having an ethylene content of 20 to 60 mol % and a degree of saponification of at least 90% and 95 to 5 parts by weight of a styrene-based polymer (B) having mainly syndiotactic configuration. The resin composition has gas barrier properties and a markedly improved heat resistance.

A multi-layer material with a layer (A) of a saponified product of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer having an ethylene content of 20 to 60 mol % and a degree of saponification of at least 90% and a layer (B) of a styrene-based polymer having mainly syndiotactic configuration, or a resin composition comprising 5 to 95 parts by weight of a saponified product of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (A) having an ethylene content of 20 to 60 mol % and a degreee of saponification of at least 90% and 95 to 5 parts by weight of a styrene-based polymer (B) having mainly syndiotactic configuration has gas barrier properties and markedly improved heat resistance. In a molding comprising the resin composition or the multi-layer material, contents (food) can be stored for a long period of time at ambient temperature. Moreover, after retort sterilization, the container can be heated by boiling, or in a microwave oven or a grill oven (at 220 to 240.degree. C.) in the condition that the contents (food) are placed in the container.

Multi-layer material having gas barrier properties

A process for producing an optical recording medium, comprising heat-treating an optical recording medium formed of a thin metal film on the minutely roughened surface of a plastic substrate, the medium being capable of strongly absorbing laser light of a specific wavelength region thereby being able to be written upon.

Production of optical recording medium

An optical recording medium which is made up of a plastic substrate having a surface of minute roughened structure and a metal thin film formed on the substrate and is capable of strongly absorbing laser light of a specific wavelength region, thereby writing data on the medium. The optical recording medium is characterized by an intermediate layer interposed between the plastic substrate and the metal thin film, the intermediate layer having a higher melting point or lower thermal conductivity than the metal thin film and having a thinner average thickness than the metal thin film. The optical recording medium has a definite recording threshold value and permits stable recording with a high CNR by using a broadly ranged recording power.

Optical recording medium

An optical information recording medium, comprising a substrate and a recording layer, the recording layer containing a metal complex of a monoazo compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is a residue which, taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom and carbon atom, forms a heterocyclic ring; Y is a residue which, taken together with the two adjacent carbon atoms, forms an aromatic ring; and Z is hydroxy or carboxy.

Optical information recording medium

A method of producing a cyclized polydiene comprising cyclizing a polydiene in an organic solvent with the aid of a binary catalyst comprising tin halide or titanium halide and an organosulfonic acid or a haloacetic acid. The method provides a cyclized polydiene having a narrow molecular weight distribution in a short reaction time and with high reproducibility. The method does not entail side reactions causing gelation or discoloration.

Method of producing a cyclized polydiene

Body cavity fluids, such as ascitic fluid and pleural fluid, are concentrated and filtered to remove bacteria and cancer cells, and the filtered concentrate is returned to the patient intravenously. The concentration and filtration are performed batch-wise, with the concentration being done before the filtration. The apparatus for concentrating and filtering includes a first container for holding the body fluid, a second container for holding the final filtered concentrate, a filter, a concentrator, a pump and two branched tubes connected to the filter and the concentrator which tubes can be selectively closed for concentrating and filtering the body fluid. The fluid outlet of the first container is designed to help prevent precipitated fibrin from passing out of the container and blocking the concentrator or filter membranes.

Apparatus for concentrating and filtering body cavity fluids

Ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer membranes characterized by constituent particles having an average diameter within the range of from 100 to 10,000 Angstrom units, determined under an electron microscope for the dry membrane, bonded to each other, wherein the membrane is substantially free from pores in excess of from 2 microns in diameter. Such a membrane has a permeability to water of 10 to 200 .times. 10.sup.-16 cm.sup.2 and to vitamin B.sub.12 of not less than 0.8 .times. 10.sup.-7 cm.sup.2 per second, and being of particular value as a membrane for the dialysis of blood. The membrane is obtained by dissolving an ethylenevinyl alcohol copolymer in a solvent consisting essentially of dimethylsulfoxide or dimethylacetamide and causing the resulting solution to coagulate from an aqueous coagulation bath under mild conditions such that the coagulation time as defined in the specification is not less than 3 seconds.
