A thermal transfer recording medium comprising a substrate and a hot-melt ink layer, provided on one surface of the substrate, and a back-coated layer, provided on the other surface of the substrate, said hot-melt ink layer comprising a polyether resin having a basic bisphenol structure and hydroxyl groups at the terminal ends thereof as a binder, and a colorant, said back-coated layer comprising a reaction product of a polyisocyanate and an amino-modified silicone oil, is disclosed. The thermal transfer recording medium of the present invention is capable of forming a transferred image of high quality substantially without being affected by the surface properties of the image receiving paper, and has a high stability.

A thermal transfer recording ink composition comprises a resin having a melting point according to JIS-K0064 of 55.degree. to 110.degree. C. and a solidification point according to JIS-K0064 being at least 50.degree. C. lower than the melting point, resin particles having a size of 0.05 to 2.0 microns and a coloring matter. It is coated on film and used repeatedly.

A thermal transfer recording medium comprises a substrate and a layer of a hot-melting ink composition, coated on the substrate, comprising a hot-melting binder, a coloring matter and 0.1 to 5 percent by weight, based on the composition as the solid content, of an alkaline earth metal phenate.
