A projection lens unit of the present disclosure is a projection lens unit that enlarges and projects image light output from an image forming unit onto a projection target, the image light including first light and second light having a longer wavelength band than the first light. The projection lens unit includes a plurality of lenses coated with a first antireflection coating, and a wavelength selection filter having a first region in a center of the wavelength selection filter through which an optical axis passes and a second region around the first region. In the wavelength selection filter, a transmittance of the first light in the second region is lower than a transmittance of the first light in the first region.

Projection display apparatus

The present invention provides a shutter apparatus and a drive method for the same, the shutter apparatus having functions of both a shutter apparatus for an image interception and a shutter apparatus for an aperture adjustment and being space-saving and low in costs. Within an illumination casing are provided first and second shading platesand, first and second cammed gearandhaving a cam grooveandrespectively for driving the first shading plateand the second shading platerespectively. A cam shape is structured such that the rotation of a DC motor(one drive source) enables the first and second shading platesandto drive independently. Thus, arbitrarily operating the functions of both the shutter apparatus for the image interception and the shutter apparatus for the aperture adjustment by the DC motor(one shared drive source) is possible.

Thus, the efficiency of using illumination light by the spatial light modulator is improved, and it is possible to achieve an increased color luminance of a projected image, while sufficiently maintaining an effect of preventing color mixing from being caused by adjoining color filters.

There are provided 2n (n is 2 or more) light sourcesto, 2n first collective optical systems composed of ellipsoidal mirrorstothat are arranged so as to focus light beams emitted from the respective light sources, n first light combiner optical systems that are composed of prismsand, each having an isosceles triangular prism shape in cross section, and are arranged so as to synthesize exiting light beams from respective corresponding two of the first collective optical systems, second collective optical systemsandarranged so as to focus exiting light beams from the respective first light combiner optical systems, a n/2 second light combiner optical system composed of a prismhaving an isosceles triangular prism shape in cross section and arranged so as to synthesize exiting light beams from respective corresponding two of the second collective optical systems, and a third collective optical systemcomposed of a plurality of lenses and a plurality of lens arrays and arranged so as to allow exiting light beam from the second light combiner optical system to be incident thereon. The 2n first collective optical systems each have an optical axis substantially parallel to one another.

Illumination optical device and projection display device

On a transparent substrate (), a first alternating periodic layer () including low-refractive-index layers () and high-refractive-index layers (), a second alternating periodic layer () including the low-refractive-index layers () or the high-refractive-index layers () and intermediate-refractive-index layers (), and a third alternating periodic layer () including the low-refractive-index layers () and the high-refractive-index layers () are provided in this order. The refractive index of the intermediate-refractive-index layers () is higher than that of the low-refractive-index layers () and lower than that of the high-refractive-index layers (). Furthermore, the intermediate-refractive-index layers () contain materials for the low-refractive-index layers () and the high-refractive-index layers (). A dichroic mirror thus configured has a narrow color separating band between a transmission wavelength band and a reflection wavelength band, and therefore has a satisfactory color separating efficiency. Accordingly, a projection-type display unit using the dichroic mirror provides satisfactory color reproduction while retaining a high spectrum utilization efficiency.

An illuminating optical system for focusing a radiant light of a light source () onto a reflecting light valve () and a projection lens () for magnifying and projecting a reflected light from the reflecting light valve () onto a screen are provided, a diaphragm () is disposed at a substantially conjugate position of an entrance pupil of the projection lens () on an optical path of the illuminating optical system, the diaphragm () has an opening whose area is changed by a light-shielding member, and a shape of a shielded portion of the diaphragm () shielded by the light-shielding member is rotationally asymmetric to an optical axis () of the illuminating optical system. Accordingly, shielding of necessary light can be better avoided compared with a diaphragm for changing the light-shielding area in a rotationally symmetric manner, for example, a diaphragm for narrowing the opening concentrically, making it possible to improve contrast performance while minimizing brightness reduction.

A liquid crystal panel includes a first substrate and on which pixel electrodes are formed in a matrix pattern, a second substrate on which a counter electrode is formed, an ultraviolet reducing layer formed on one of the first and second substrate corresponding to the matrix pattern of the pixel electrodes, and a polymer dispersion liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates. The liquid crystal layer is cured by irradiating ultraviolet light from the side on which the ultraviolet reducing layer is formed. The polymer dispersion liquid crystal layer is arranged between the counter electrode and each pixel electrode has an average liquid crystal drop diameter which is larger than that arranged in other areas.

Liquid crystal panel with reducing means, manufacturing method therefore and projection display apparatus using the same

A liquid crystal display panel includes a counter substrate having a counter electrode and a multi-layered dielectric film both formed thereon, and an array substrate formed with pixel electrodes and thin-film transistors serving as switching elements. A layer of polymer dispersed liquid crystal material containing a UV-curable resin component and a liquid crystal component is sandwiched and sealed between the counter and array substrates. A light shielding film is formed over each thin-film transistor. The multi-layered dielectric film is a laminated structure of alternating thin-films of SiO,and HfO,. Since the multi-layered dielectric film is of a nature capable of transmitting UV-rays of light therethrough, the UV-curable resin component positioned underneath the multi-layered dielectric film can be cured during the manufacture. Also, since the multi-layered dielectric film is of a nature capable of reflecting light of a visible region, it serves as a black matrix, reflecting the visible light modulated by the display panel. Black beads are used to keep the film thickness of the liquid crystal layer at a predetermined value. Preferably, a dielectric thin-film having a relative dielectric constant smaller than that of the liquid crystal material is formed on signal lines for transmitting signals to the thin-film transistors, to thereby accomplish an electromagnetic shield. Where color filters are to be formed on the pixel electrodes, those color filters may be formed on the signal lines to accomplish the electromagnetic shield.

Display panel and display device using the same

A liquid crystal display panel includes a counter substrate having a counter electrode and a multi-layered dielectric film both formed thereon, and an array substrate formed with pixel electrodes and thin-film transistors serving as switching elements. A layer of polymer dispersed liquid crystal material containing a UV-curable resin component and a liquid crystal component is sandwiched and sealed between the counter and array substrates. A light shielding film is formed over each thin-film transistor. The multi-layered dielectric film is a laminated structure of alternating thin-films of SiO.sub.2 and HfO.sub.2. Since the multi-layered dielectric film is of a nature capable of transmitting UV-rays of light therethrough, the UV-curable resin component positioned underneath the multi-layered dielectric film can be cured during the manufacture. Also, since the multi-layered dielectric film is of a nature capable of reflecting light of a visible region, it serves as a black matrix, reflecting the visible light modulated by the display panel. Black beads are used to keep the film thickness of the liquid crystal layer at a predetermined value. Preferably, a dielectric thin-film having a relative dielectric constant smaller than that of the liquid crystal material is formed on signal lines for transmitting signals to the thin-film transistors, to thereby accomplish an electromagnetic shield. Where color filters are to be formed on the pixel electrodes, those color filters may be formed on the signal lines to accomplish the electromagnetic shield.

A liquid crystal panel includes a first substrate on which pixel electrodes are formed in a matrix pattern, a second substrate on which a counter electrode is formed, an ultraviolet reducing layer formed on one of the first and second substrates and corresponding to the matrix pattern of the pixel electrodes and a polymer dispersion liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second. The liquid crystal layer is cured by irradiating ultraviolet light from the side on which the ultraviolet reducing layer is formed. The polymer dispersion liquid crystal layer is arranged between the counter electrode and each pixel electrode and has an average liquid crystal drop diameter which is larger than that arranged in other areas.

In the optical apparatus, the projection lens has a first lens group and a second lens group, the color synthesizing optical system has a transparent plate, dichroic mirrors and a plane mirror, the second lens group is disposed between the color synthesizing optical system and the polarization beam splitters, and the plane including the normal line of the plane of the transparent plate, the color synthesizing planes of the dichroic mirrors and the optical axis of the projection lens is perpendicular to the plane including the normal line of the polarizing and splitting planes of the polarization beam splitters and the optical axis of the projection lens.

Optical apparatus, projection display apparatus and optical compensation

A projection lens includes sequentially from a screen side a first lens group which has a negative power, a second lens group which has a weaker power than that of the first lens group, a third lens group which has a positive power, a fourth lens group which has a positive power, and at least one transparent prism, wherein the fourth lens group is placed on the third lens group side of the transparent prism so as to be close to or in contact with the transparent prism. In the projection lens, a back focus of the main lens group is much longer compared with a focal length. A projection display apparatus using this projection lens is composed of one main lens group, three auxiliary lenses, and three polarizer-beam splitters, and a color combining optical system for combining three primary color components of red, green, and blue into one light beam is placed between the main lens group and the auxiliary lens.
