An electronic percussion instrument includes an up/down motion detecting apparatus for a hi-hat for detecting up/down motions of the hi-hat regardless of a type of the hi-hat. An interlocked portion moves in response to up/down motions of the hi-hat mounted on an extension rod that constitutes a hi-hat stand. A seat unit does not move in response to up/down motions of the hi-hat. A sensor is provided on the seat unit. A connecting portion connects the interlocked portion and the sensor together and converts up/down motions of the interlocked portion into motions detectable by the sensor.

A supporting structure for an electronic pad of a percussion instrument includes a pad member, a pair of a first engaging part and a second engaging part, and a connecting part which connects a first object (e.g. a leg fixed to a stand) and a second object (e.g. the second engaging part) in a rotatable manner about the rotation center. The connecting part includes a rotation-regulating unit which regulates the rotational displacement of the second object within the regulation range irrespective of a rotational torque less than a predetermined value which is applied to the second object disposed at the initial position relative to the first object. Due to a rotational torque above the predetermined value, the rotation-regulating unit shifts the regulation range so as to shift the initial position, and therefore the second object will be restored to the new initial position.

Supporting structure for electronic pad of percussion instrument

An electronic percussion musical instrument comprises a plurality of playing pads for playing music by striking the face of each pad. The pads are configured to work either as individual pads respectively for playing different percussion tones or as grouped pad zones by combining some of the pads, each zone playing a same percussion tone. Plural timbres of musical tones are stored in a storage unit and are respectively allocated to the individual playing pads or the grouped pad zones. The grouped pad zone can be handled just as a wide area pad. When an individual pad or a grouped pad zone is struck, the allocated tone will be generated. Some of the pads or grouped pad zones can be used as a special playing technique instruction pad to input an instruction to impart an effect of special playing technique to the tones to be generated. As a tone playing pad is struck with the special playing technique instruction pad being pressed, a musical tone allocated to the tone playing pad is generated with the special playing technique effect being imparted thereto. The pads can be two-dimensional and three-dimensional.
