Disclosed is a catalyst which can be used in the process for producing hydrogen by decomposing ammonia, can generate heat efficiently in the interior of a reactor without requiring excessive heating the reactor externally, and can decompose ammonia efficiently and steadily by utilizing the heat to produce hydrogen. Also disclosed is a technique for producing hydrogen by decomposing ammonia efficiently utilizing the catalyst. Specifically disclosed is a catalyst for use in the production of hydrogen, which is characterized by comprising an ammonia-combusting catalytic component and an ammonia-decomposing catalytic component. Also specifically disclosed is a catalyst for use in the production of hydrogen, which is characterized by comprising at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of cobalt, iron, nickel and molybdenum.

The catalyst according to the present invention can be utilized effectively as an ozone decomposing catalyst for catalytically decomposing to eliminate ozone contained in a gas and/or an ozone deodorizing catalyst for decomposing offensive odor ingredients contained in a gas by catalytic oxidation under the pretense of ozone, and it contains at least manganese carbonate as the essential component in the catalyst composition. A catalyst for purifying exhaust gas produced by coating honeycomb carriers of monolithic structure with a catalyst composition comprising cerium oxide particles stabilized with (a) zirconia or (b) zirconia and at least one member selected from the group consisting of yttria and calcia, refractory inorganic oxide particles, 0.02 to 2% by weight of rhodium based on said catalyst composition, and 0 to 10% by weight of at least one platinum-family metal selected from the group consisting of platinum and palladium based on said catalyst composition.

Catalyst for purifying exhaust gas and method for production thereof

A catalyst for purifying exhaust gas comprises a honeycomb carrier of monolithic structure and a coating layer deposited on the honeycomb carrier and formed with a catalyst composition containing a refractory inorganic oxide in the form of particles possessing and average particle diameter in the range of 0.5 to 20 microns, which refractory inorganic oxide has platinum and/or palladium and rhodium deposited thereon in high concentrations. This catalyst is produced by coating the honeycomb carrier with an aqueous slurry containing the catalyst composition and calcining the coated carrier.
