A cutting tool comprises a substrate and a coating that coats the substrate, the coating including an α-alumina layer provided on the substrate, the α-alumina layer including crystal grains of α-alumina, the α-alumina layer including a lower portion and an upper portion, the upper portion being occupied in area at a ratio of 50% or more by crystal grains of α-alumina having a (006) plane with a normal thereto having a direction within ±15° with respect to a direction of the normal to the second interface, the lower portion being occupied in area at a ratio of 50% or more by crystal grains of α-alumina having a (006) plane with a normal thereto having a direction within ±15° with respect to the direction of the normal to the second interface, the α-alumina layer having a thickness of 3 μm or more and 20 μm or less.

Surface-coated cutting tool and method for manufacturing same

Cemented carbide contains a first hard phase and a binder phase. The first hard phase is composed of tungsten carbide particles. The binder phase is composed of cobalt, nickel, iron, and copper as constituent elements. An average content of each of the constituent elements is not lower than 10 atomic % and not higher than 30 atomic %. Cemented carbide contains no second hard phase, or a content of the second hard phase is equal to or lower than 2 mass % of a total amount of cemented carbide. The second hard phase is composed of a compound containing at least one type of a metal element selected from the group consisting of a group-IV element, a group-V element, and a group-VI element in a periodic table except for tungsten and at least one type of an element selected from the group consisting of carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen.

A cutting tool incudes a substrate and a coating that coats a surface of the substrate, the coating including a multilayer structure layer composed of at least one layer A and at least one layer B alternately deposited from a side closer to the substrate toward a side closer to a surface, the layer A having an average composition of AlCrN, the layer B being composed of TiAlSiN, the layer A being composed of a domain region and a matrix region, the domain region having a composition ratio of Cr larger than that of Cr of the matrix region, wherein x has a range of 0.5&#x2264;x&#x2264;0.8, y has a range of 0.5&#x2264;y&#x3c;0.71, z has a range of 0.29&#x2264;z&#x3c;0.5, and 1&#x2212;y&#x2212;z has a range of 0&#x3c;1&#x2212;y&#x2212;z&#x2264;0.1.

A cemented carbide includes first hard phase grains, second hard phase grains, third hard phase grains, and a metal binder phase, wherein the cemented carbide has a total of 70 unit regions, the number of unit regions each having a percentage of less than 0.43% or more than 2.43% is &#x2264;10 among the total of 70 unit regions, the percentage being a percentage of the total number of the second and the third hard phase grains in each unit region with respect to the total number of the second and the third hard phase grains in the total of 70 unit regions, and in a total of 10 unit regions existing in a fourth row in a longitudinal direction, a percentage of the number of the third hard phase grains with respect to the total number of the second and the third hard phase grains is 5% to 15%.

A cemented carbide comprises a first hard phase comprising tungsten carbide particles and a binder phase including Co and Cr. In any surface or any cross section of the cemented carbide, a region in which there is a distance X of 5 nm or less between surfaces respectively of tungsten carbide particles adjacent to each other, with the surfaces facing each other along a length L of 100 nm or more, is referred to as a WC/WC interface, and a ratio C(R)/C(C) has an average value of 0.17 or more, where C(R) and C(C) represent peak values of atomic percentages of Cr and Co, respectively, at a WC/WC interface having a distance X of 1 nm or more and 5 nm or less and having therein an atomic percentage of Co higher than an average value of atomic percentages of Co in the tungsten carbide particles+2 at %.
