A sensor failure diagnostic apparatus includes a first estimation unit to estimate a mixing ratio of each type of a molecular structure included in a fuel, based on combustion parameters when a combustion of an internal combustion engine is executed in different combustion conditions, among the combustion parameters sensed by a combustion sensor, a second estimation unit to estimate the mixing ratio, based on characteristic parameters sensed by a characteristic sensor, a combustion sensor diagnostic unit to determine whether a failure of the combustion sensor exists, based on a sensed value of the combustion sensor when the combustion is not executed, and a characteristic sensor diagnostic unit to determine whether a failure of the characteristic sensor exists, by comparing the mixing ratio estimated by the first estimation unit with the mixing ratio estimated by the second estimation unit when the combustion sensor diagnostic unit determines the combustion sensor is normal.

Sensor failure diagnostic apparatus

An estimation device is applicable to a combustion system including an internal combustion engine. The estimation device includes a mixing acquisition unit, a combustion amount estimation unit, and a region estimation unit. The mixing acquisition unit acquires the mixing ratio of various components contained in the fuel used for combustion in the internal combustion engine. The combustion amount estimation unit estimates a main combustion amount of the fuel caused by a main combustion produced by injecting the fuel into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine with a main injection, based on the mixing ratio acquired by the mixing acquisition unit. The region estimation unit estimates a combustion region of the main combustion in the combustion chamber based on the mixing ratio acquired by the mixing acquisition unit.

Estimation device and control device for combustion system

A fuel passage leads a fuel from a pressure-accumulation vessel to a nozzle hole of a fuel injection valve. A fuel pressure sensor detects a fuel pressure in a fuel passage. The mixing ratio estimation unit estimates the mixing ratio of each of plural types of molecular structures included in the fuel. The lubrication index calculation unit calculates a lubrication index, representing the lubricity of an outer peripheral portion Sof the piston of a fuel pump and an outer peripheral portion of the valve body of a fuel injection valve by the fuel, based on the mixing ratio estimated by the mixing ratio estimation unit.

Combustion system estimation device and control device

An ECU, as a combustion system control device, includes various control units such as a first estimation unit, a second estimation unit, a comparison/selection unit, and an injection control unit. The first estimation unit estimates, as a first estimation value, the mixing ratio of each molecular structure species contained in fuel based on the value detected by an in-cylinder pressure sensor that is a combustion sensor. The second estimation unit estimates, as a second estimation value, the above mixing ratio based on the values detected by a density sensor and a dynamic viscosity sensor that are property sensors. The comparison/selection unit compares the first estimation value with the second estimation value to select an estimation value with higher estimation accuracy, and various control units such as the injection control unit control the operation of a combustion system by using the selected estimation value.

A combustion system controller controls an operation of a combustion system including an internal combustion engine. The combustion system controller includes a mixing ratio acquisition portion and a control portion. The mixing ratio acquisition portion acquires the mixing ratios of various components included in a fuel. The control portion controls the operation of the combustion system based on the mixing ratios acquired by the mixing ratio acquisition portion.

A fuel estimation apparatus includes a combustion characteristic acquisition portion and a mixing ratio estimation portion. The combustion characteristic acquisition portion acquiring a combustion characteristic value indicating a physical amount relating to a combustion of an internal combustion engine acquires the combustion characteristic values of the combustions executed in different combustion conditions. An engine control apparatus works to determine target values of a plurality of combustion parameters which represent combustion states of fuel in a combustion engine and are needed to achieve required performances of the combustion engine, calculate a combustion parameter deviation that is a deviation of an actual value of each of the combustion parameters from the target value thereof, select at least one of controlled parameters correlating with the combustion parameters as a function of a degree of a selected one of the combustion parameter deviations for minimizing the selected one of the combustion parameter deviations. The controlled parameters are parameters for controlling operations of actuators working to control the combustion states of the combustion engine. The engine control apparatus controls the one of the controlled parameters, as selected by the controlled parameter selector, to minimize the selected one of the combustion parameter deviations.

Engine control system with actuator control

A fuel injection control system for an internal combustion engine is provided which is designed to perform pilot injection of fuel into the engine through a fuel injector prior to main injection. The system monitors a combustion state parameter representing a combustion state of the fuel within a combustion chamber of the engine which has been sprayed in the event of the pilot injection. When the combustion state parameter is determined as lying out of a stable combustion range where the fuel is to burn stably, the system changes the number of pilot injections to be executed prior to the main injection and/or the quantity of the fuel to be sprayed in each pilot injection, thereby enhancing the ignitability of the fuel in the pilot injection.

There is disclosed a fuel property detector for detecting a property of fuel injected by a fuel injector into a cylinder of an internal combustion engine. The fuel property detector includes an injection commander, a change detector, and a fuel property determiner. The injection commander commands the fuel injector to perform a fuel injection for fuel property detection into the cylinder of the engine. The change detector detects a change in the rotational speed of the engine which is caused by the fuel injection for fuel property detection. The fuel property determiner determines the property of the fuel based on the change in the rotational speed of the engine detected by the change detector.
