A male connector (M) has male housings (A,B,C) and is connectable with a female connector (F) with female housings (A,B,C). Error connection preventing projections (A,B) of the male housings (A,B) are received in receiving portions (A,B) of the female housings (A,B) to connect the two connectors (M, F) properly if the combination of the housings in the male and female connectors (M, F) is correct. However, the error connection preventing projections (A,B) on the male housings (A,B) interfere with opposed the female housings (B,C) and hinder connection of the two connectors (M, F) if the combination of housings is incorrect.

Split-type connector assembly and method of assembling it

A male terminal fitting () provided with a tab () is insertable into an auxiliary housing () from behind. A protection cap () capable of protecting the tab () by surrounding it is mounted on the auxiliary housing (), thereby constructing a cap-fitted auxiliary connector (SC). The protection cap () is provided with front-stops () for holding the male terminal fitting () at its proper insertion position so as not move any further forward by being engaged with the male terminal fitting () inserted into the auxiliary housing ().

Cap-fitted auxiliary connector for divided connector and a method of assembling such a connector

A female housing () has cavities () for receiving female terminal fittings (). A lock () is provided in each cavity () and is deformed by insertion of the female terminal fitting (). However the lock () is restored resiliently to engage and lock the female terminal fitting () in the cavity (). Maneuverable recesses () are provided on the front surface of each lock () retracted from the locked terminal fitting (). A disengagement jig () can be engaged with the maneuverable recesses () to deflect the lock () so that the terminal fitting () can be removed from the cavity ().

Connector, a disengagement jig and a method

A female connector (F) has female terminal fittings (), female auxiliary housings () for accommodating the female terminal fittings (), and a female frame for accommodating the female auxiliary housings (). A male connector (M) has male terminal fittings () with tabs (), male auxiliary housings () for accommodating the male terminal fittings (), and a male frame () with a receptacle () for accommodating the male auxiliary housings () and into which the female connector (F) is fittable. A moving plate () is movable backward in the receptacle and has positioning holes () into which the tabs () are introduced. The moving plate () has positioning projections (), and the female auxiliary housings () has positioning recesses () engageable with the positioning projections (). Thus, the moving plate () and the female auxiliary housings () can be positioned with respect to each other.

Connector

A connector has a housing () with a cavity () and a resiliently deformable lock () in the cavity (). The connector further has a terminal fitting () that can be inserted into the cavity (). The insertion of the terminal fitting () deforms the lock (). However, the lock () restores when the terminal fitting () is inserted completely, and locks the terminal fitting in the cavity (). The terminal fitting () and the cavity () are formed with mutually engageable structures () for preventing inclination of the terminal fitting () in the deforming direction of the lock ().

Connector, a terminal fitting and a method for inserting a terminal fitting

A housing ( ) of a connector has vertical screw holes ( ) parallel to a connecting direction of the housing ( ) and horizontal screw holes ( ) normal to the connecting direction. Thus, the housing ( ) is both horizontally and vertically mountable on a circuit board (P), and flexibility in the use of the housing ( ) is improved. Further, the horizontal screw holes ( ) are normal to the connecting direction and can be formed by a pair of molds movable along the connecting direction. Therefore, costs necessary for the molds can be reduced.

Connector for circuit board and method of forming it

A retainer mount hole ( ) is open in a connector housing ( ) from its bottom surface over to its opposite side surfaces, and a retainer ( ) is pushed obliquely from a partial locking position to a full locking position. On the other hand, each terminal fitting ( ) is provided with a projection ( ) and a stabilizer ( ) at the side of the projection ( ). When the retainer ( ) reaches the full locking position, both the projection ( ) and the stabilizer ( ) are engaged with the retainer ( ). The projecting end of the rear end of the stabilizer ( ) is pointed, thereby forming a biting portion ( ). When a wire ( ) connected with the terminal fitting ( ) is pulled backward, the biting portion ( ) bites in the retainer ( ) to prevent the retainer ( ) from returning.

A connector housing ( ) has a cavity ( ) and a resiliently deformable lock ( ) cantilevers forwardly from a wall ( ) of the cavity ( ) for engaging a locking surface ( ) of a terminal fitting ( ) inserted into the cavity ( ). A base end of the lock ( ) has a thinned portion ( ). A backward pulling force on the female terminal fitting ( ) creates a compressive force on the lock ( ) in the longitudinal direction. Thus, the lock ( ) undergoes such a resilient deformation at the thinned portion ( ) that the length (L ) of the lock ( ) becomes shorter than its natural length (L ). Buckling strength is enhanced by as much as the lock ( ) is shortened and, as a result, a force for locking the female terminal fitting ( ) is enhanced.

Terminal fitting, connector provided therewith and method for producing the terminal fitting

A connector has a housing ( ) and retainer mount hole ( ) is open in the housing ( ) from its bottom surface over to its opposite side surfaces. Upon being moved from a partial locking position to a full locking position, A retainer ( ) can be moved from a partial locking position to a full locking position and is guided obliquely forward by guides ( ). Thus, the retainer ( ) can be constantly guided to a specified position regardless of a variation in the fitted position of the retainer ( ) in the retainer mount hole ( ) along forward and backward directions. Since the retainer ( ) and terminal fittings ( ) can constantly have a proper positional relationship, a problem of a varying function of the retainer ( ) to detect the insufficiently inserted states of the terminal fittings ( ) due to a variation in the fitted position of the retainer ( ) can be solved.

Connector and a method of assembling it

A terminal fitting (T) has a base wall ( ) and side walls ( L, R) that extend from opposite sides of the base wall ( ). A resilient contact piece ( ) projects up and back from a front end of the base wall ( ) and between the side walls ( L, R). A lean-preventing plate ( ) extends from the first side wall ( L) and contacts the inner surface of the second side wall ( R) at a location obliquely forward of and above the front end of the resilient contact piece ( ) to prevent the side walls ( L, R) from leaning.

Terminal fitting, a connector provided therewith and use thereof

Auxiliary connectors ( ) of a female connector ( ) are formed for a plurality of types of female terminal fittings ( ). When a plurality of auxiliary connectors ( ) of the same type are mounted into a frame ( ), the number of the terminal fittings to be inserted into the individual auxiliary connector ( ) is decided based on connection loads per terminal fitting to ensure that an operation load of the auxiliary connector ( ) does not exceed an upper-limit value, and the same number of terminal chambers ( ) as the decided number of the terminal fittings are formed in the auxiliary connector ( ). A connector has a housing ( ) with cavities ( ) into which terminal fittings ( ) are insertable. Locks ( ) in the housing ( ) deform during insertion of the terminal fittings ( ) into the cavities ( ), but then resiliently restore to lock the terminal fittings ( ) in the cavities ( ). Lowered portions ( ) of a bottom wall ( ) of the housing ( ) face the locks ( ) and prevent the locks ( ) from being excessively deformed. The bottom surface of each lock ( ) has a convex arcuate surface ( ) and each lowered portion ( ) of the bottom wall ( ) has a recess ( ) substantially conforming to the convex arcuate surface ( ) to accommodate the convex arcuate surface ( ) when the lock ( ) deforms.

In order to prevent terminal fittings of a card edge connector from short circuiting, a housing is provided with a short circuit preventing member made from insulating material. This short circuit preventing member can be moved between a short circuit preventing position, between resilient contacts of terminal fittings provided at mutually opposing upper and lower locations, and a retreated position, which is to the posterior of the short circuit preventing position. Since the upper and lower terminal fittings are prevented from short circuiting when the short circuit preventing member is in the short circuit preventing position, the resilient contacts are bendable to a greater degree, thus increasing their contacting force with contacts of a card edge connector.
