Low frequency drive is performed that provides, after a charging period for refreshing a screen, a pause period for pausing the refresh. The length of the charging period is, for example, one frame and the length of the pause period is, for example, 59 frames. When new image data IMD is transmitted from a host to an LCD driver IC during the pause period, an interrupt process where the pause period is allowed to transition to the charging period is performed immediately thereafter. By performing the interrupt process, without waiting for the pause period with the predetermined length to end, the next charging period where refresh based on the new image data IMD is to be performed starts.

A drive device of a display panel includes a controller that controls operations of a scanning-control signal output circuit and a common-electrode voltage control circuit, wherein when the controller receives a changeover command that indicates changeover of a scanning order of a plurality of scanning signal lines, the controller controls an operation of the scanning-control signal output circuit so that a scanning order of the plurality of scanning signal lines is changed over between a normal order and a reverse order and controls an operation of the common-electrode voltage control circuit so that a voltage of the common electrode is changed over between a voltage determined in advance for normal-order scan and a voltage determined in advance for reverse-order scan, during a scanning order changeover period as a predetermined period after ending last scanning of a scanning signal line during a frame period in which the changeover command is received.

This liquid crystal display device allows outputs from RS-FF circuits (to) and switch circuits (to), which function as a shift register, to be provided as scanning signals that are selectively activated during odd and even scanning line selection periods, by simply changing the potential of an enable signal (EN) (i.e., by simply providing an EN signal line), which achieves interlacing drive that allows a reduction in the number of polarity inversions, thereby making it possible to reduce power consumption and a wiring area for control lines and achieve simple control which allows circuit simplification, resulting in a reduced frame area and a display panel which is compact as a whole.

When a counter signal lineelectrically connected to a counter electrodeis provided on an active matrix substrate, a coilis formed by allowing a part of the counter signal lineto make a loop in a plane parallel to the substrate. To form the coil, two wiring layers provided to the active matrix substrateare used. By inserting the coilin series with the counter signal line, high-frequency noise placed on a counter electrode voltage is suppressed and a liquid crystal applied voltage is stabilized, improving the display quality of a liquid crystal screen. A similar coil may be formed using a power supply line on the active matrix substrate. By this, a liquid crystal panel which is highly immune to noise even without providing anti-noise components is provided.
