According to an embodiment, an electrode group is provided. The electrode group includes a positive electrode, and a negative electrode. The negative electrode active material-containing layer includes a facing section which faces the positive electrode active material-containing layer and a non-facing section which does not. A first fluorine-containing coating is formed on a main surface of the negative electrode active material-containing layer in at least a part of the non-facing section. The abundance ratio of fluorine atoms included in the first fluorine-containing coating is in the range of 2.5 atom % to 10 atom %.

According to one embodiment, provided is an electrode including a current collector and an active material-containing layer in contact with the current collector. The active material-containing layer contains a carbon nanotube and particles of titanium-containing oxide having an average particle size or 0.1 μm to 3 μm. A peel strength between the current collector and the active material-containing layer is within a range of 0.2 kN/m to 0.7 kN/m.

According to one embodiment, a secondary battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, an insulating layer, and a nonaqueous electrolyte is provided. The positive electrode includes a positive electrode active material-containing layer containing a lithium nickel cobalt manganese composite oxide. The negative electrode includes a negative electrode active material-containing layer having a first surface. The insulating layer includes a solid electrolyte layer having a second surface that is at least partly opposed to or partly in contact with the first surface and containing a Li ion conductive oxide. At least part of the second surface or the first and second surfaces includes a Mn-containing substance. An abundance ratio of Mn on the second surface is higher than that on the first surface.

According to one embodiment, an electrode is provided. The electrode includes a current collector, and an active material-containing layer which is formed on a surface of the current collector and includes a plurality of niobium titanium composite oxide particles. A X-ray diffraction pattern using a Cu-Kα ray source with respect to a surface of the active material-containing layer includes a peak A with a highest intensity in a range of 2θ=26°±0.2° and a peak B with a highest intensity in a range of 2θ=23.9°±0.2°. An intensity ratio (Ia/Ib) between an intensity Ia of the peak A and an intensity Ib of the peak B is in a range of 1.80 or more to 2.60 or less.

The current collecting layer is in contact with the second principal surface. The composite membrane includes a composite layer in contact with the first principal surface. The composite layer contains inorganic solid particles and a polymeric material. A peel strength &#x3c3;1 at a first interface between the active material-containing layer and the composite layer and a peel strength &#x3c3;2 at a second interface between the active material-containing layer and the current collecting layer satisfy a relationship of &#x3c3;1&#x3e;&#x3c3;2, and &#x3c3;2&#x2264;1 N/cm.

The hydrogel electrolyte includes a gel having a chemically crosslinked structure. A first electrolyte composition of the first electrolyte is different from a second electrolyte composition of the second electrolyte. At least one of the first electrolyte and the second electrolyte includes an aqueous solvent, the aqueous solvent including water. At least a part of at least one of the negative electrode and the positive electrode overlaps at least a part of the hydrogel electrolyte.

According to one embodiment, provided is a secondary battery including a negative electrode containing a titanium-containing oxide, a positive electrode, a separator between the negative electrode and the positive electrode, a first aqueous electrolyte, a second aqueous electrolyte, and a third aqueous electrolyte. The first aqueous electrolyte is held in the negative electrode and contains 0.001% by mass to 0.5% by mass of zinc ions. The second aqueous electrolyte is held in the separator and contains 1% by mass to 5% by mass of a first compound that includes a hydrophobic portion and a hydrophilic portion. The third aqueous electrolyte is held in the positive electrode.

According to one embodiment, an electrode group is provided. The electrode group includes a positive electrode that includes a lithium composite oxide LiMMnO(0&#x3c;x&#x2264;0.5, M is at least one selected from a group consisting of Ni, Cr, Fe, Cu, Co, Mg, and Mo) as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode that includes a negative electrode active material, a composite electrolyte layer that includes at least one of a solid electrolyte and an inorganic compound containing alumina, and a separator. The first composite layer has a first surface and a second surface. The first surface is in contact with the substrate layer. The second surface is located on an opposite side to the first surface. Denseness of a portion including the first surface is lower than denseness of a portion including the second surface in the first composite layer.

According to one embodiment, a battery includes a container member, a separator, a first electrode, a first electrolyte, a second electrode and a second electrolyte. The container member has a housing space in the interior, and the separator is housed in the housing space of the container member. The separator includes a bag, and the first electrode is housed in an interior of the bag. The first electrolyte is retained on the first electrode in the interior of the bag. The second electrode is located outside the bag in the housing space. The second electrolyte is retained by the second electrode outside the bag in the housing space.

According to one embodiment, an electrode includes a current collector and an active material layer. The active material layer is disposed on at least one of faces of the current collector. The active material layer comprises active materials which include at least a cobalt-containing oxide and a lithium nickel manganese oxide. A ratio of a weight of the cobalt-containing oxide to a total of weights of the cobalt-containing oxide and the lithium nickel manganese oxide is 5 wt % or more and 40 wt % or less.
