An automatic assembling apparatus having two identical assembling jigs. One assembling jig is attached to a robot arm and the assembling jig is then moved by operation of a robot from a setting site to an assembling site for assembling a plurality of parts set thereon at the setting site to an article place at the assembling site. Simultaneously, the plurality of parts are set on the other assembling jig. The two units are alternately attached to the robot arm at the setting site. Two receiving tables, each of which is for mounting thereon each of the assembling jigs, are provided alongside of each other at the setting site. A transfer device is provided to transfer each assembling jig from one receiving table to the other receiving table. The assembling jig attached to the robot arm is detached from the robot arm and placed on the one receiving table and the other assembling jig mounted on the other receiving table is then attached to the robot arm.

Automatic assembly apparatus

A hinge pin couples a first hinge receiver mounted on a vehicle body and a second hinge receiver mounted on a door to be installed on the vehicle body. The hinge pin is removed from the vehicle body and the door to separate the vehicle body and the door from each other after the vehicle body and the door have been coated, and the removed pin engages in a hinge pin engaging member. The hinge pin is fed to a position where the vehicle body and the door are to be assembled together, and the hinge pin is removed from the hinge pin engaging member. Then, the removed hinge pin is pressed into the first and second hinge receivers which are aligned with each other, thereby coupling the vehicle body and the door to each other.

A robot hand changer has a first joint member mounted on a robot arm, a second joint member mounted on a robot hand, and an engaging member mounted on the first joint member and angularly movable with respect to the second joint member for coupling the first and second joint members against each other. The robot hand changer also has an optical signal transmission device including sets of optical fibers disposed in confronting relation out of contact with each other for transmitting control signals across mating surfaces when the robot arm and the robot hand are coupled to each other, and photoelectric transducer circuits for converting electric signals to optical signals and vice versa. The robot hand arm further includes a detecting device for detecting dirt on the mating surfaces.

A hinge pin is temporarily held on a first hinge member on the automobile body by means of a hinge pin support mechanism. A door to be attached to the automobile body is held in position, and a second hinge member on the door is brought into engagement with the first hinge member. The hinge pin is pressed into the second hinge member through the first hinge member to couple the door to the automobile door. The hinge pin support mechanism includes a hinge pin retaining member including a ring separably joined to a plurality of legs. When the hinge pin is pressed into the hinge members, the ring is sheared off from the legs and rides in a peripheral groove defined in the hinge pin. The ring then engages one of the hinge members to prevent the hinge pin from being removed from the hinge members. The door can automatically be attached to the automobile body by a door attaching mechanism and detached from the automobile body by a door detaching mechanism.

The present invention provides an automatic assembly system, without using an expensive sensor, to enable an assembling jig to be easily positioned with respect to a particular portion of a car body to which parts are to be assembled, in order to facilitate assembling of the parts while reducing production cost. The basic car-body positioning arrangement preferably includes a reference hole, used for positioning, and a seating piece, used for jacking-up the car body.

An automatic welding apparatus is comprising a replaceable jig table, a conveying device for carrying the jig table between a setting station and a welding station and temporary welding device mounted on the jig table for applying temporary welds to a workpiece while the jig table is being moved by the conveying device. At least one holding device at the welding station removes the temporarily welded workpiece from the jig table and holds the workpiece therein and an additional welding device is positioned with respect to the holding device for permanently welding the workpiece while the workpiece is held by the holding device and the jig table is being returned to the setting station by the conveying device.

Automatic welding apparatus

A workpiece preset jig arrangement for a welding apparatus. The welding apparatus has an apparatus body, a welding jig mechanism on the body and clamps on the welding jig mechanism for clamping plural component parts for constituting a workpiece so that the workpiece may be welded to another workpiece by the welding jig mechanism. The preset arrangement includes a preset arrangement body positioned adjacent the welding apparatus body, a preset jig mechanism provided on the arrangement body, and preset clamps mounted on the preset jig mechanism for clamping the plural component parts. The preset jig mechanism is moveable between a set position facing the welding jig mechanism and a preset position away from the set position and the welding jig mechanism. The set position is such that the plural component parts may be transferred from the preset jig mechanism to the welding jig mechanism simply by releasing the clamps on the preset jig mechanism and engaging the clamps on the welding jig mechanism. The present jig mechanism provides an apparatus for preassembling the plural component parts while the welding jig mechanism is engaged in welding previously preassembled component parts.
