An image reading device including an image sensor for optically reading a document and outputting an electric signal, a period control circuit for controlling the period of a horizontal synchronizing signal in order to change a time period during which charge is stored in the image sensor, and a scanning speed control circuit for controlling the scanning speed of the document to be a speed conforming to the period of the horizontal synchronizing signal. The horizontal synchronizing signal and the scanning speed are variably set to values corresponding to an image reading mode, for example.

Image reading device and image forming apparatus comprising the same

An image processing apparatus wherein a document on a document support table and an optical system are moved relative to each other for scanning to read the image of the document as a density signal, and the read signal is processed as required, the apparatus comprising a document mat so colored that when the document support table is covered with the mat, the read signal represents an intermediate color, discriminating device for judging whether the density signal represents the intermediate color to produce a binary signal, a memory having a memory capacity of l/n based on the density signal, a write control for causing the binary signal to be written in the memory device in synchronism with the scanning movement, and apparatus for determining the size of the document from the contents of the memory device.

Image processing apparatus

An area setting device for setting coordinates of two points in a diagonal direction in one or more areas to be copied by a photocopier utilizing key operation in sequence, in which different colors are used for coordinate display in each direction. The same colors as the coordinate displays are used for coordinate input indicators. All the points are memorized as to whether coordinates have been applied. A key input is accepted for the first point not having coordinates applied, and this converts the memorized condition. Key input acceptance and memory state conversion are repeated for all the points required.

Area setting device

An operation panel is provided in a copying machine wherein a print key is mounted on the right end part, various data displays are mounted on the center part, a set magnification display is formed at one end of these various data displays in the longitudinal direction thereof, and a set density display is formed at the other end thereof. A magnification setting key is mounted close to the set magnification display, and a density setting key is mounted close to the set density display. An original size display symbol is formed close to one side edge of the displays in the lateral direction, and a copy paper size display symbol is formed close to the other end thereof. Various function selecting keys are mounted somewhat apart from the various data displays. Before starting copying operation, display of the data that is to be set and entered by the operator is cleared. Display of set data is cleared during setting of the copy image density by automatic exposure. After completing density setting operation, the set data is displayed.

The main body of the apparatus includes a rotatable photosensitive member, a device for forming a latent electrostatic image on the photosensitive member, a developer, a transfer device, a device for conveying a copying paper, a cleaner and a heat fixing device. Various improvements have been made in the manner of controlling cleaning, the manner of controlling the delivery of a copying paper, the manner of controlling troubleshooting and display, the manner of controlling interrupting copying, the manner of controlling heating, the manner of distribution electric power, etc. The heating is controlled by a parallel network of linear circuits including a temperature detector and a multi-element voltage dividing circuit, the elements of which can be switched into and out of operation to alter the sensed temperature to which the network responds.

An electrical power saving unit has a manually operable power saving switch which produces a power saving signal to which the heat controller is partially responsive.

An automatic developing bias control device for an electrophotographic copying machine in which a document image is led onto a photoreceptor through a lens to form an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor and the electrostatic latent image is visualized into a toner image by a developing device, the automatic developing bias control device operating on the principle of detecting the density of the document image by a detecting element disposed inside or outside the optical path, delaying the output detection signal for a predetermined time, and imposing a developing bias potential corresponding to the delayed output detection signal on the developing device to thereby provide copy image quality faithful to the original.

An apparatus for regulating the movement of a movable member includes a drive device for moving the movable member in a first direction from a rest position to an operative position and for moving the movable member in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, from the operative position toward the rest position. A first detector detects the presence of the movable member at the rest position. A second detector detects the presence of the movable member at a location adjacent the rest position but upstream thereof with respect to the second direction. A control arrangement is operatively connected to the drive device and to the first and second detectors to operate the drive device to move the movable member in the first direction and then in the second direction, to stop the drive device upon detection of the movable member moving in the second direction at the location by the second detector, whereafter the movable member continues movement by inertia in the second direction from such location to the rest position and is detected thereat by the first detector, and too, if the movable member is not detected at the rest position by the first detector within a predetermined time period after the detection by the second detector, again starting the drive device to move the movable member in the second direction until detection thereof by the first detector.
