An optical fiber includes an entrance face that is optically coupleable with a device for transmitting a light beam through the optical fiber. The entrance face includes a core region and a cladding region surrounding the core region. The cladding region is at least partially covered with a coating, which is made of metal, for example. That is, the coating is formed over a whole area of the cladding region or the coating is formed on an area of the cladding region defined in a vicinity of the core region. The coating has a mirror surface to increase the reflectivity thereof and enhances the reflectivity of the entrance face.

Optical fiber and method for producing the same

An optical communication device includes a light source that emits a light beam and an optical fiber having a core and a cladding. The optical fiber has a light entrance face having a core region and a cladding region. The light beam emitted by the light source is converged by a converging lens on the core region and is transmitted through the optical fiber. The entrance face is configured to generate a light intensity distribution in light reflected by the light entrance face depending on a position where the light beam is incident on the entrance face, a converging lens arranged between the light source and the optical fiber.

Optical communication device

In binoculars provided with a tremble preventing function, correction lenses are held by a lateral-direction driving frame which is supported in an opening portion of a lengthwise-direction driving frame. The state of the power switch of the binoculars is detected. If the power switch is ON, the output voltage level of a power battery is compared with a threshold. If the output voltage level is below the threshold, the driving frames are driven to a reset position and further to a moving center position, and then the power is turned OFF. If the output voltage level is higher than the threshold, a tremble preventing operation is carried out. The check of the output voltage level and the tremble preventing operation are repeatedly performed every one millisecond.

Optical device provided with tremble correcting function

A mounting base which includes an object side portion, an eyepiece side portion, and a connecting portion. The connecting portion connects the side portions, and the side portions are parallel. A pair of first mounting holes are formed in the object side portion and a pair of second mounting holes are formed in the eyepiece side portion. An axis line, perpendicular to the object side portion, which goes through a geometric center of gravity of one of the first mounting holes is coaxial with an axis line, perpendicular to the eyepiece side portion, which goes through a geometric center of gravity of one of the second mounting holes. Lens barrels of the objective lenses are fixed to the first mounting holes. Eyepiece units, in which the eyepieces are held, are rotatably engaged with the second mounting holes.

Binocular and method for manufacturing the same

A connecting member is provided with a first, a second and a third arm which radially extend. A first hole is formed at an end of the first arm, and a second hole is formed at an end of the second arm. The centers of the first and second holes respectively coincide with optical axes of objective lenses. A pair of eyepiece groups are held by a pair of holders. The holders are rotatably held by the first and second holes, so that an interpupillary adjustment is carried out. A rotation ring axle is threadably engaged with a third hole formed at an end of the third arm. A guide shaft passes through a junction of the first, second and third arms. The connecting member is movable along optical axes of the eyepieces, so that a focusing operation is carried out.

Focusing device of binocular

A lengthwise-direction driving frame is supported in an opening of a flange by holding members, being slidable in a lengthwise direction. The opening of the flange includes inner walls parallel to the lengthwise direction. A lateral-direction driving frame, which holds correction lenses, is supported in an opening of the lengthwise-direction driving frame, being slidable in a lateral direction. The opening of the lengthwise-direction driving frame includes inner walls parallel to the lateral direction. A tip of a shaft of a lengthwise-direction actuator abuts at all times against a pressed member which is fixed on the lengthwise-direction driving frame. A tip of a shaft of a lateral-direction actuator abuts at all times against a pressed member which is fixed on the lateral-direction driving frame. The lengthwise-direction and lateral-direction actuators are respectively fixed on the flange.

Optical device provided with correcting function for trembling of focused image

In binoculars, a lens supporting frame which supports correction lenses, comprises a lengthwise-direction and a lateral-direction driving frames. A bar is formed on a frame mounted on an inner wall of the binoculars, being positioned approximately close to a center of the lens supporting frame. Guide holes are formed in the bar. Each guide hole is respectively positioned at a portion corresponding to an upper and a lower edge portions of the lengthwise-direction driving frame. Guide pins are respectively mounted on a center portion of the upper and the lower edge portions so as to pierce the guide holes, projecting to a side of objective lenses. When the lens supporting frame is driven in the lengthwise direction, a lengthwise-direction driving actuator pushes one of the guide pins, the lengthwise-direction driving frame being led by the guide pins in the lengthwise direction.

An optical device comprises correction lenses for correcting a tremble of a focused image. The correction lenses are held by a lateral-direction driving frame which is held by a lengthwise-direction driving frame. The frames are respectively moved by a lengthwise-direction actuator and a lateral-direction actuator. When a power switch of the optical device is turned OFF, motors of the actuators are driven such that the driving frames are respectively moved to reset positions. Further, differences between the reset positions and moving center positions are read from an EEPROM, and the motors of the actuators are driven based on the differences, such that the frames are respectively moved to the moving center positions. Then, the motors are stopped, and a power supply to the optical device is stopped.

Optical device provided with correcting function for trembling of focused image with a stop of power supply to the device

An angular positional data of binoculars in a lateral irection is calculated by integrating output of a gyro sensor. A positional data of correction lenses in the lateral direction is calculated by multiplying a driving step number of a rotor of a stepping motor which drives the correction lenses in the lateral direction, by a driving amount of the lens holding frame, which holds the correction lens, according to a one step rotation of the stepping motor. A difference between the angular positional data and the positional data of the correction lenses is calculated. If the difference is within a range from a positive threshold value to a negative threshold value, an electric power supply to a driving circuit of the stepping motor is stopped. With respect to a lengthwise direction, a similar operation to that of the lateral direction is performed.

Tremble correction device

Correction lenses are driven by a lengthwise-direction actuator in order to correct a tremble of a focused image in the lengthwise direction. A rotational motion of the lengthwise-direction actuator is transmitted to the correction lenses through a lengthwise-direction direct drive mechanism. A previous rotational direction of a motor of the lengthwise-direction actuator is memorized. It is judged that a rotational direction of the motor for correcting the tremble is the same as or the reverse of the previous rotational direction. If the rotational directions are the reverse, a driving pulse amount of the motor is adjusted such that a pulse count for canceling a play of engaging portions of the lengthwise-direction direct drive mechanism is included. With respect to correcting the tremble in the lateral direction, the same operation as described above is performed.

Tremble preventing device

Disclosed is a viewing optical instrument which includes: a first image stabilizer for stabilizing the vision in the viewing optical instrument in a first direction; a second image stabilizer for stabilizing the vision in the viewing optical instrument in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction; a first switch for manually turning the first image stabilizer ON or OFF; and a second switch, provided independently from the first switch, for manually turning the second image stabilizer ON or OFF.

A pair of correction lenses is unitarily held by a holding plate in binoculars. The direction and the amount of the movement of the focused image occurring due to hand tremble while utilizing hand-held binoculars, are detected. The holding plate is driven in the vertical and horizontal directions, so that the direction and the magnitude of the movement of the focused image are canceled by the correction lenses.

Mechanism correcting a trembling of focused image

A binocular is provided with a pair of telescopic optical systems. Each of the pair of telescopic optical systems has an objective lens system, an erecting optical system, and an observing optical system. The erecting optical system of each of the telescopic optical systems may be a type I or type II Porro prism, which is divided into two sub prisms respectively have two reflection surfaces. First and second hand vibration compensation mechanism is provided: (a) between the objective lenses and erecting optical systems; and (b) between the first sub prisms and the second sub prisms.

Binoculars having hand-vibration compensation system

A binocular is provided with a hand-vibration compensation system. The hand-vibration compensation system includes an arm member which rotatable about a rotation axis extending in parallel with the optical axes of the pair of telescopic optical systems of the binocular. Compensation lenses for shifting images are held at the end portions of the arm. It should be noted that the rotation axis of the arm is located between the optical axes of the pair of telescopic optical systems, and more importantly, the arm is substantially equally balanced at the rotation axis thereof. The arm is driven to rotate about the rotation axis by an actuator in accordance with a hand-vibration applied to the binocular.

Binocular having hand-vibration compensation system

Disclosed is an observation optical system such as a binocular. A telescopic optical system of the observation optical system is provided with a plurality of optical elements, which are arranged such that the observation optical system has a first optical axis horizontally extending and a second optical axis vertically extending when the binocular is held horizontally by a user. The observation optical system is further provided with first and second compensation optical systems that are movable to shift optical paths of light passed through the first and second compensation optical systems to compensate trembling of image due to hand vibration applied to the observation optical system. The compensation optical systems are constituted and arranged such that movement thereof will not be affected by the gravity.
