The display device includes a liquid crystal panel including a polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) layer and a light source, the PDLC layer containing a polymer network and liquid crystal components dispersed in the polymer network, the light source being apart from the liquid crystal panel with an air layer, and configured to emit light toward the liquid crystal panel from an oblique direction, the end portion and the central portion of the PDLC layer each having, in the scattering state, an angle dependence which changes a transmittance of light to be emitted from a front surface based on an angle at which light is incident on a back surface of the PDLC layer, with the angle dependence of the end portion being different from the angle dependence of the central portion, the light source irradiating the end portion and the central portion with light at different angles.

Provided is a liquid crystal display device including: a liquid crystal panel; and a control circuit, the liquid crystal panel sequentially including an active matrix substrate, a first alignment film, a liquid crystal layer, a second alignment film, and a counter substrate, the active matrix substrate sequentially including a first substrate, a first electrode, a first insulating layer, and a second electrode including a linear electrode portion, the counter substrate including a second substrate and a third electrode, the third electrode extending in a longitudinal direction of the sub-pixel at a right or left end of the sub-pixel, a ratio of a width of the third electrode to a width of the first electrode in a widthwise direction being 0.14 or greater and 0.25 or smaller, the control circuit being configured to switch between application of an alternating voltage and application of a constant voltage to the third electrode.

Liquid crystal display device

In the present embodiment, a sealing agent () sealing two substates contains a low melting-point glass material and is adhered to each of a first substrate () and a second substrate (), a barrier rib (), which is formed in such a manner as to surround the outer periphery of an electronic element (), is disposed between the sealing agent () and the electronic element (), and between the first substrate () and the second substrate (), and the sealing agent () is spaced apart from the barrier rib (). As a result, a deterioration of the electronic element, caused by the heat produced when sealing, may be prevented while the electronic element formed between the two substrates is protected from moisture and oxygen.

Substrate sealing structure body, and, display device and production method therefor

The present invention has: a reflective liquid crystal display element () that is formed in a first region (R) on a TFT substrate () and having at least the upper surface thereof comprising an inorganic insulating film (), and that has a reflective electrode (), a liquid crystal layer (), and a counter electrode (); and a light-emitting element () that is formed in a second region (T) above the insulating layer of the TFT substrate, and that has a first electrode (), a light-emitting layer (), and a second electrode (). In addition, the light-emitting element has an encapsulating layer () formed of an inorganic insulating layer that covers the entirety of each light-emitting region, and an end portion of the encapsulating layer is bonded to the inorganic insulating film of the insulating layer.

A display device includes a first substrate including a light-emitting element that is an upward light emission type and a transistor in a lower layer than the light-emitting element, a second substrate facing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes a sealing film formed in an island shape and covering the light-emitting element and a pixel electrode that is transparent. The pixel electrode includes a first portion not overlapping the sealing film and a second portion overlapping the sealing film.

Display apparatus

A display device includes a first substrate including a light-emitting element that is an upward light emission type and a transistor in a lower layer than the light-emitting element, a second substrate facing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes a sealing film formed in an island shape and covering the light-emitting element, a pixel electrode including a first portion not overlapping the sealing film, and a light reflective film overlapping the first portion and including a recessed and protruded surface.

A liquid crystal display module is switchable between a blocking state and a displaying state on the basis of a change, caused by applying a voltage to the liquid crystal layer, in the orientation of liquid crystal molecules contained in the liquid crystal layer, the blocking state being a state in which transmitting light is concentrated to a blocking region on an initial optical axis, the displaying state being a state in which transmitting light is concentrated to a light-emitting region on a voltage-induced optical axis different from the initial optical axis.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device which is excellent in uniformity of visual angles even when divided alignment regions are distorted due to an external pressure such as pressing pressure. The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device comprising: a pair of substrates; and a liquid crystal layer between the substrates, wherein, as viewed in a plan view of a main surface of one of the substrates, the liquid crystal display device has an alignment division pattern in which each pixel is divided into four or more alignment regions, and each set of a plurality of pixels constitutes one unit, and each of the units of the alignment division pattern comprises, in at least one pixel, an alignment region whose alignment direction is different from alignment directions of alignment regions which are located at same vertical and horizontal positions in the other pixels.

Provided is a display panel using polymer network liquid crystal in which a monomer unreacted region is reduced and a thin-film transistor can be prevented from being irradiated with light energy. In the display panel, a black matrix () is provided as an element having a light-shielding property in a first substrate (), a pixel electrode () and a thin-film transistor () serving as a switching element for driving the pixel electrode () are provided in a second substrate (), polymer network liquid crystal () is filled between the first substrate () and the second substrate (), a cover portion () that is part of the black matrix () provided in the first substrate () faces the thin-film transistor () provided in the second substrate (), and the outer periphery of the cover portion () is located outside the outer periphery of a channel region by a specified dimension or more.

Display panel

A liquid crystal layer, made of a liquid crystal material having a negative dielectric anisotropy, is sealed between an opposing substrate and a pixel substrate that are arranged face to face with each other; thus, a liquid crystal panel of the birefringence control type is constructed. In this liquid crystal panel, the liquid crystal molecules, provided as the liquid crystal material, are kept in an oriented state in which they incline by an angle in the range of 3&deg; to 10&deg; with respect to the direction that is normal to the opposing substrate and the pixel substrate. Upon application of a driving voltage to the liquid crystal layer, since the pretilt angle, which is the initial angle of inclination of the liquid crystal molecules, is set at a value greater than that of a conventional apparatus, the occurrence of reverse tilt regions can be suppressed. Thus, the disclination line, which is formed by the effect of electric potentials exerted between the adjacent pixels, is shifted toward the edge of the pixel. The shift of the disclination line suppresses the occurrence of disclination in a wider region, thereby increasing the effective reflectance of the pixels.

Liquid crystal panel having tilted liquid crystal molecules and liquid crystal display using the liquid crystal panel

It is an object of the invention to provide a liquid crystal display apparatus produced by combining a negative dielectric constant anisotropy and a perpendicular orientation film, the apparatus capable of preventing lowering of contrast because of a phase difference due to a tilt of liquid crystal molecules at the time of non-select voltage application and ensuring both high luminance and high contrast. The liquid crystal display apparatus produced by combining the negative dielectric constant anisotropy and the perpendicular orientation film is used in the normally black mode, and a phase difference plate for compensating the phase difference caused by the tilt of the liquid crystal molecules at the time of non-select voltage application is provided so as to be adjacent to a liquid crystal cell, with the result that light-transmittance at the time of non-select voltage application can be kept in a low value and contrast can be largely improved.

Liquid crystal display apparatus having a negative dielectric constant anisotropy and a phase difference plate

A liquid crystal display apparatus suppressed of orientation defect includes a first substrate having a main surface, a liquid crystal drive element formed on the main surface of the first substrate, an oriented film formed on the main surface of the first substrate, a patterned metal film on the oriented film, photosensitive resin formed on the metal film, a second substrate arranged facing the first substrate with the metal film and the photosensitive resin as a spacer, and a liquid crystal compound filled between the first and second substrates. Also, a method of fabricating this liquid crystal display apparatus is claimed.
