Disclosed is a sliding bearing used in turbochargers of internal combustion engines. It is formed with a copper alloy containing, by mass %, 25 to 45% Zn, 0.3 to 2.0% Si, 1.5 to 6.0% Mn, and the balance being Cu and unavoidable impurities. The sliding bearing has a cylindrical shape for supporting a rotating shaft. Crystallized Mn&#x2014;Si compounds are dispersed in a matrix of the copper alloy, the compounds extending in an axial direction of the rotating shaft on a sliding surface of the sliding bearing. The crystallized Mn&#x2014;Si compounds have an average inter-grain distance of 20 to 80 &#x3bc;m. The matrix may contain precipitated Mn&#x2014;Si compounds as well as the crystallized Mn&#x2014;Si compounds.

Sliding bearing used in turbocharger of internal combustion engine

An object of the present invention is that in a sliding member whose substrate is improved in sliding characteristics by a coating layer comprising a solid lubricant, the coating layer is obtained as one having a low coefficient of friction and an excellent wear resistance. In the present invention, the coating layerhas a structure formed by laminating solid lubricant plate crystal grains, and contains not more than 10 mass % of a resin for binderfor bonding the solid lubricant plate crystal grains, and the lubricant plate crystal grains have a crystal structure formed by piling (00l) planes (wherein l is an integer of not less than 1) in parallel, the index of orientation of the (00l) planes being not less than 90% at least on the sliding surface.

Sliding member and process for formation of its coating layer

The present invention is intended to provide a sliding member which exhibits an excellent anti-seizure property even under starved lubricant conditions. In the present invention, there is provided a sliding member with a structure, in which a coating layer having a sliding surface is adhered to the surface of the base material, wherein the coating layer does not contain a resin binder but has solid lubricant plate crystal particles laminated therein, wherein these solid lubricant plate crystal particles have a lamellar crystal structure in which (001) planes are stacked in parallel, and at least in the sliding surface, the orientation index of the (001) plane of the solid lubricant plate crystal particles is 90% or more.
