There are provided a wiper control method and a wiper control device in which unnecessary wiping operation is not performed. When a fixed amount of water passing through a detection area, the water being carried by the wiping operation of a wiper, is detected, the presence of impact of a raindrop on the detection areais judged. When there is no impact of a raindrop on the detection area, it is judged that water that is carried by the wiperand passes through the detection areais caused by a factor other than rainfall, and control is carried out to decrease the frequency of wiping operation of the wiper.

A signal processing method and a signal processing device are provided in which a signal obtained from an object as an input signal, a time lag signal is generated from the input signal, a difference between the input signal and the time lag signal, and the generation of the difference is detected, so that a portion of the object at a position where the difference is generated is featured.

The sensing device includes a sampling part for sampling signals from the photo-detector, a compression part for compressing signals in a sequence of the sampled signals when they continue within a single segment, where a plurality of the segments defined by a plurality of predetermined values are set with respect to an input signal, a calculation part for calculating a compressibility from the number of the sampled signals to be compressed by the compression part and the number of the sampled signals that have been compressed thereby, and a judging part for judging the condition of the sensing surface based on the compressibility.

An object sensor and object sensing method that sense the status of the sensing surface by detecting a dynamic impact of a rain drop, not by comparing the signal with a reference value. An object sensor sensing the status of a sensing surface by detecting a light with a photo detector, which light has been emitted by a photo emission element and reflected on the sensing surface, comprises: a means for generating a time lag signal from the output signal of the photo detector; a means for calculating a differential signal between the output signal of the photo detector and the time lag signal; and a means for judging the status of the sensing surface by detecting the generation of the differential signal.
