An image forming apparatus includes an image forming section that forms an image with toner, a housing that houses the image forming section, and a toner collection mechanism. The toner collection mechanism includes a suction unit that sucks the toner, which leaves the image forming section and is flying, and air, and a separation unit separating the toner from air. The separation unit includes a separator that collects the toner and allows air to pass therethrough, a casing that houses the separator that has an opening, through which the toner and air flow, and a joining unit that is disposed along an edge of the opening and joins the casing and the housing to each other. The joining unit projects upward beyond the edge of the opening at least in the lower portion of the opening, thereby forming a space that allows the toner to be trapped.

A plate cylinder has formed therein a groove extending parallel to the cylinder axis and having a depth direction thereof set at an angle to a plane tangent to the plate cylinder at the groove, so that the opposite sides of the groove are at acute and obtuse angles, respectively, to that plane. For moistening a water roller in contact with a planographic printing plate on a plate cylinder in an offset printing press, a sprayer produces a more or less flat spray of dampening water. Baffles are positioned in front of the sprayer to define an aperture through which the spray travels before hitting the water roller. The aperture has a width shorter than the longer dimension of the cross section of the spray as measured in a plane containing the aperture, and longer than the shorter dimension of the cross section of the spray in the same plane. Thus the rate at which the dampening water is supplied to the water roller is infinitely variable by changing the angular position of the spray relative to the aperture between a minimum dampening position where the spray has the opposite longitudinal end portions of its cross section interrupted to the utmost by the baffle means and a maximum dampening position where the spray is allowed wholly through the aperture. In practice a series of rotary sprayers may be arranged along the axis of the water roller.
