An input device includes an electrode part, a switching circuit, a driving circuit, a detecting circuit, and a controller. The electrode part includes a plurality of electrode pieces. The switching circuit is formed of a plurality of switches connected to the electrode pieces respectively. The driving circuit and the detecting circuit are connected to the electrode part via the switching circuit. The controller is connected to the driving circuit, the switching circuit, and the detecting circuit. The controller controls the respective switches such that the electrode pieces are individually opened or connected to one of the driving circuit and the detecting circuit.

A portable radio communication apparatus is provided with a boom portion having both ends connected with a housing of the portable radio communication apparatus and having a central portion located between both ends. In the portable radio communication apparatus, at least one through hole is formed between the boom portion and the housing. The boom portion includes a central portion and two end portions. A small-sized mobile radio has a built-in antenna is high enough to enhance the antenna characteristics. In the mobile radio, a base plate is structured by a section (antenna-housing section) including a supply portion and a short-circuiting portion, for example, of an antenna element which affect the antenna characteristics, and a section (circuit-housing section) which is the rest of the base plate. The antenna-housing section is so positioned so as to keep the built-in antenna high enough, that is, to keep the space between the base plate and the antenna element large enough. On the other hand, the circuit-housing section is positioned toward the back of the cabinet to provide room for a display and a key section.

An inverted F-type antenna apparatus is provided with a grounding conductor and an antenna element arranged on the grounding conductor so as to face the grounding conductor. The inverted F-type antenna apparatus further includes at least one coupling element provided between the grounding conductor and the antenna element so as to face the grounding conductor and the antenna element, and a connection conductor is provided for electrically connecting the antenna element with the grounding conductor at least in one place. In the inverted F-type antenna apparatus, the grounding conductor, the antenna element and the coupling element are arranged so as to be substantially parallel to each other.

An antenna is provided which can reconcile a low antenna resonance frequency and broadband frequency characteristics, while attaining stable impedance characteristics and enhanced design flexibility. A conductive plate is coupled to a conductive base plate via a first metal lead. A voltage is applied to the conductive plate from a supply point via a second metal lead. A conductive wall is electrically coupled to the conductive plate at one end thereof. An electromagnetic field coupling adjustment plate is electrically coupled to the other end of the conductive wall. The electromagnetic field coupling adjustment plate is disposed so as to leave a predetermined interspace between itself and the conductive base plate, thereby creating a capacitor in conjunction with the conductive base plate. The conductive wall and the electromagnetic field coupling adjustment plate are disposed so as to maximize a path length from a shot-circuiting portion (at which the conductive plate is coupled to the first metal lead) to an open end of the electromagnetic field coupling adjustment plate. Preferably, a current path extending from a supply portion (at which the conductive plate is coupled to the second metal lead) to the short-circuiting portion has a length equal to a &frac12; wavelength for a desired resonance frequency.

A wireless input apparatus includes a transmitting section responsive to turning-on of a switch for transmitting a prescribed signal, and a transmission control section for measuring a time period during which an on state of the switch continues, and inhibiting the transmission by the transmitting section when the measured time period becomes equal to a prescribed time period.
