Disclosed is a method of driving a plasma display panel. In this method, one field corresponding to one image is divided into a plurality of sub-fields, and at least one second sub-field is arranged after a first sub-field. In the first sub-field, the method comprises a first step of forming wall charges with negative polarity near the scanning electrode and forming wall charges with positive polarity near the common electrode and the data electrode; a second step of adjusting an amount of the wall charges with negative polarity near the scanning electrode and an amount of the wall charges with positive polarity near the common electrode and the data electrode; a third step of generating a writing discharge in a selected display cell of the display cells; a fourth step of generating light emission for display; and a fifth step of erasing a part of the wall charges in the display cell which emits light in the fourth step. In the second sub-field, the method comprises the same steps as the third, fourth and fifth steps. A potential difference between a scanning electrode and a common electrode in each of the fifth steps in the first and second sub-fields is set to be smaller than a potential difference between a scanning electrode and a common electrode in each of the third steps in the first and second sub-fields.

Method, circuit and program for driving plasma display panel

When a discharge start voltage takes a normal value under the normal temperature, priming discharge starts at a time t. With such a configuration, provided is a plasma display device capable of implementing excellent and stable display quality while maintaining constant, even if a discharge start voltage varies, the charge state in display cells after a priming period, and a drive method for such a plasma display device.

Plasma display device and method for driving the same

A PDP data driver is provided in which input and output terminals are divided into a plurality of groups and a given group can be selected so as to output a high level. The PDP data driver is formed by a plurality of data driver ICs that are arranged. In an output control circuit of each data driver IC, input and output terminals are arranged in an order of a plurality of primary colors forming a screen and are divided into a plurality of groups. The output control circuit includes a first gate array and a second gate array in such a manner that gates of each array corresponds to the input and output terminals, respectively. For each of the groups, the first gate array is controlled to output input data without change or output a high level in accordance with a first control input and the second gate array is controlled to transfer all outputs of the first gate array without change or output a low level in accordance with a second control output.

PDP data driver, PDP driving method, plasma display device, and control method for the same

A plasma display unit applies data pulses of a predetermined polarity to data electrodes in odd-numbered columns and applies data pulses of an opposite polarity to data electrodes in even-numbered columns. The plasma display unit applies scanning pulses which are inverted between positive and negative polarities in first and second states that occur alternately, to scanning electrodes in odd-numbered rows, and applies scanning pulses which are inverted between positive and negative polarities in the first and second states in opposite relation to the scanning pulses applied to the scanning electrodes in odd-numbered rows, to scanning electrodes in even-numbered rows. Pixels arranged vertically and horizontally in a two-dimensional matrix are alternately energized in a staggered grid pattern, so that the number of pixels that are simultaneously energized is half the number of pixels of a conventional plasma display unit. A writing failure of wall charges due to a voltage drop of scanning pulses is prevented from occurring with an AC-discharge, surface-discharge plasma display unit having an increased size.

Methods for driving an AC discharge memory-type plasma display panel having a scanning electrode, a sustaining electrode and a data electrode, in which a driving pulse can be applied so that temporal separation of opposing discharge from surface discharge in erasing discharge during a sustaining charge erasing period is achieved to solve problems that, if opposing discharge and surface discharge occur simultaneously during the sustaining erasing discharge, control on electric charges is difficult in operations containing, at least, a writing period and a sustaining period, causing a malfunction during the writing and sustaining periods.
