A conveying apparatus includes a holding part that holds a recording medium in the form of a roll and rotates, a clamping unit that clamps the recording medium downstream from the holding part along a conveying route, a regulating member that regulates a position of a side end of the recording medium in a width direction intersecting the conveying direction between the holding part and the clamping unit in the conveying route, a drive unit that rotatably drives the holding part in a forward direction to unwind the recording medium and a reverse direction to rewind the recording medium, and a controller that controls a drive state of the drive unit. A projection-type display apparatus in accordance with the invention reduces the margin formed around the image forming range of the light valves, and forms a bright projected image. Emitted light from a light source lamp unit of a projection-type display apparatus illuminates liquid crystal light valves of each color via an integrator optical system. First and second lens plates of an integrator optical system that serves as a uniform illuminating optical system are disposed such that the attachment position thereof is capable of fine adjustment in a direction vertical to the optical axis. By performing fine adjustment of the attachment position of these, the forming position of the illumination range B can be adjusted to include the image forming range A of the liquid crystal light valves. Accordingly, there is no need to provide a wide margin around the image forming range A, taking shifting of the forming position of the illumination range B into consideration. Thus, efficient usage of the illumination light can be increased, thereby improving the brightness of the projected image.

A projector includes a first lens plate having a plurality of lenses, a second lens plate having a plurality of lenses, a light valve that modulates an output light beam from the second lens plate, and a light source apparatus. The light-source apparatus has a light-source lamp including an emission tube, a reflective mirror that reflects a divergent light beam from the light-source lamp to output a parallel light beam, the reflecting mirror having a reflective surface, a lamp housing that supports the reflective mirror, and an electrode lead. The electrode lead is led out of an end of the emission tube that is projected forward out of the reflective surface and is connected to an external connection terminal board which is positioned to a rear side of the reflective surface. The electrode lead is routed via the portion of the reflective mirror other than an effective area of the reflective mirror. A portion of the electrode lead positioned on the side of the reflective surface is arranged along a grove of a lens of the plurality of lenses of one of the first and second lens plate.

Light-source lamp unit, light-source device and projection-type display apparatus

A light-source lamp unit includes a light-source lamp unit detachably mounted, and a CPU constituting a drive and controller for the light-source lamp unit. The CPU senses lamp information obtained by a lamp-information storing block in the light-source lamp unit, pertaining to a lamp power rating, lamp life and whether a lamp is new or not, and starts counting operation time when the lamp is lit. The CPU compares the lamp life sensed and the operation time count, and forces the lamp to extinguish when the life of the light-source lamp expires. Prior to this action, the CPU gives a warning display before the life expiration of the lamp by a fixed duration of time, to warn that lamp replacement is needed. Because the lamp-information storing block in the light-source lamp unit stores the information about the lamp type and characteristics of the lamp, the light-source device can properly drive the lamp to light it and determine the lamp life even when a light-source lamp unit of a different type is used.

In a projection display provided with an optical unit, a power source unit, an external case to store the optical unit and the power source unit, a suction opening ( ) is formed in one end part of the power source unit, a discharge opening ( ) is formed in the other end part, and the suction opening ( ) is arranged in the vicinity of an air inlet in the external case. Because the suction opening ( ) and the discharge opening ( ) are provided, the inside of the power source unit can be independently and efficiently cooled, and the optical unit and the power source unit can be arranged closely to each other.

The invention provides an air intake on the upper plane of an exterior case which is opened upwards, and a cooling fan for introducing cooling air into the apparatus from the air intake is provided above an electro-optical device. There is no limit on the amount of air introduced, and sufficient cooling air for cooling the electro-optical device can be blown onto the electro-optical device. Accordingly, the electro-optical device can be cooled efficiently, and a cooling structure capable of dealing with high luminance of the light source lamp and reduction in size of the apparatus can be obtained.

A projector is provided which can project a high quality image unaffected by dust, or the like, scattered in the projector by preventing the temperature of light-modulating elements from rising. Light transmissive plates are adhered to the light emitting surface of a liquid crystal panel for red light and the light emitting surface of a liquid crystal panel for green light. The amount of heat transmitted from the polarizing plates, which generate the heat, to the liquid crystal panels is reduced by the light transmissive plates. In addition, dust, scattered in the projector, does not stick onto the light emitting surfaces of the liquid crystal panels. In contrast, a light transmissive plate is not provided at the light emitting surface of liquid crystal panel for blue light having a high energy value per unit quantity of light. Thus, the problem of a light transmissive plate preventing heat dissipation at the liquid crystal panel is eliminated, so that efficient cooling can be achieved. The relative luminosity factor of blue light B is low, so that dust is not noticeable on the screen even when it sticks onto the light emitting surface of the liquid crystal panel.

The invention provides a light source device which can positively arrange a light source lamp at a predetermined position on an optical axis. To this end, the invention provides an alignment reference surface on a reflector to which the light source lamp is attached. More specifically, a light source device of the invention comprises a light source lamp, and a reflector for reflecting light emitted from the light source lamp, the light source lamp being attached to the reflector, wherein an alignment reference surface for aligning and mounting the light source lamp is formed on the reflector. According to the invention, the light source device can be assembled by mounting the light source lamp apart from the alignment reference surface by a predetermined distance with respect to, for example, the X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis, respectively. That is, in mounting the light source lamp to the reflector, it is possible to assemble the light source device without fine adjustment of the mounting position of the light source lamp while the light source lamp is lit.

Light source apparatus, light source lamp unit and projector

A projector includes an enclosing structure that encloses an optical path from an electrooptical device to a projection lens with a heat insulating member, and a thermoelectric transducer for cooling air inside the enclosing structure. Since the enclosing structure is formed by the heat insulating member, the electrooptical device can be efficiently cooled while thermally blocking between the inside and the outside thereof. Since being enclosed, the entry of dust or oil mist from the outside is prevented, and dust or oil mist does not adhere to the electrooptical device and the like.

A projection lens unit is provided that is reduced in size and profile. The projection lens unit may include a plurality of lenses of which at least one lens disposed at the base end opposite to the projection direction is cut away at the upper portion thereof. The surface of the cut-away portion of the lens is made flat. With this arrangement, a space above the lens can be used when a cooling fan is disposed above an electrooptical unit provided in the vicinity of the projection lens unit, whereby a projector can be reduced in size and profile, because the height of the projector can be reduced because it is not necessary to provide an additional space for receiving the cooling fan in the projector.

Liquid crystal modulation elements are arranged so that light outgoing surfaces thereof face light incident surfaces of a color synthesizing prism. Transparent plates are bonded to the light outgoing surfaces of the liquid crystal modulation elements. For this reason, adhesion of dust to the light outgoing surfaces of the liquid crystal modulation elements can be prevented. Further, it is possible to prevent light reflection at the interface surface between the light outgoing surfaces and air due to the difference in refractive index therebetween. This allows a high-quality image to be projected without deteriorating the switching characteristic of the liquid crystal modulation elements while preventing dust from adhering to the light outgoing surfaces of the liquid crystal modulation elements.
