While plural kind of powder paints of different hues are mixed with each other without melting for preparation of a powder paint of a desire hue, a fluidity improver possessing a charge control function is simultaneously mixed into the powder paints without melting. The mixed powder paint containing the fluidity improver is charged, and then electrostatic powder coating is performed by the charged powder paint.

Method and apparatus for electrostatic powder coating

An electrostatic latent image formed on a light-sensitive body is developed by making a thermosetting powder coating material adhere under electrostatic force to the light-sensitive body. The powder coating material on the light-sensitive body is transferred from the transfer part of an intermediate transfer body which is softer than the light-sensitive body and the object to be coated, onto an object to be coated. The powder coating material is thermally set in such a way that it is able to bake onto the object to be coated.

A plurality of linear elements or meshed elements are arranged in a powder paint transportation path in an electrostatic powder coating gun. The materials of the linear elements and meshed elements are capable of charging the powder paint by static electricity generated by friction between the powder paint and the elements.

Previously weighed powder is radially scattered by centrifugal force. The scattered powder is introduced into a plurality of powder chambers via a plurality of powder inlets arranged along the circumferential direction. The powder, dispersed almost uniformly with respect to the circumferential direction, is distributed at a given ratio corresponding to the ratio of the areas of the powder inlets. The powder is accurately and efficiently distributed into plural portions of a given weight each without melting, aggregating or crushing.

A rotary element is rotatably attached to a cartridge main body, which is attachable to and detachable from a developing apparatus. The rotary element has an opening/closing portion for a toner outlet formed in the main body, a toner-collecting portion for collecting the toner housed in the main body, and a joint connectable to a rotation driving element provided on the developing apparatus. When the main body is detached from the developing apparatus, the outlet opening/closing portion is pressed against the periphery of the outlet. By rotation of the rotary element, the toner-collecting portion collects the toner in the main body. The toner collected is supplied to the developing apparatus via the outlet.

A cover 10 is provided to cover the opening of a toner container 2. The cover 10 is attachable to, and detachable from, the toner container 2. A valve element 12 capable of closing the opening 11 formed in the cover 10 is pressed up to an opening position by a pressing-up portion 20 provided on a developing apparatus side. Shifting of the valve element 12 to the opening position makes it possible to supply the toner from the toner container 2 to the developing apparatus.

A novel resin is produced by the step of polymerizing (a) styrene and/or a derivative thereof, (b) a monomer component selected, alone or in combination of two or more, from the group consisting of methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, a methacrylic ester and an acrylic ester, and (c) 0.05 to 10 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the monomers, of a polybasic acid having 7 to 40 carbon atoms, an anhydride thereof or a lower (C1 to C6) alkyl ester thereof, the monomer component (b) containing at least one acrylic or methacrylic ester having hydroxyl or epoxy group in at least equimolar amount to the component (c) and has a softening point of 100.degree. to 160.degree. A toner cartridge comprises a cylindrical cartridge body having a toner discharge port formed in a part of a peripheral surface thereof along its longitudinal direction, a pivot shaft disposed at the axis of the body, and a toner pressure feeding member joined to the pivot shaft through a plurality of connecting rods and adapted to discharge toner contained in the body from the toner discharge port. The toner pressure feeding member is disposed in parallel with the pivot shaft. Connecting rods, which are not locate in a position corresponding to the toner discharge port, are diagonally disposed with respect to the pivot shaft with an end of each of the group of connecting rods joined with the pivot shaft situated at the side where they attach toner discharge port. The group of connecting rods are provided at the side of the to with a toner guiding portion. Thos connecting rods opposite the toner discharge port are perpendicular to the pivot shaft.

A polyester for use as an electrophotographic toner composition is obtained by copolycondensation of (a) a diol component of polyoxyalkylene-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane and (b) an acid component, improved by incorporating into the acid component a copolymer of styrene or a derivative thereof and a carboxylic vinyl monomer. A copolymer of an unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon and an unsaturated carboxylic acid and a polymer and copolymer of an unsaturated carboxylic acid may be used. The toner is improved in the prevention of off-set in the fixation step.

The present invention relates to toners for developing electrostatically charged images which are comprised of a polyester binder resin condensed from diols of the formula ##STR1## with a polyhydric carboxylic acid or a derivative thereof wherein the polyhydric carboxylic acid is a mixture of dihyridic carboxylic acid or its alkylesters and about 30 mole % to about 80 mole % of the total acid content of more hydric carboxylic acids or therein hydrids.

An electrophotographic developer composition, toner, comprises a binder of a polyester resin and a colorant, said polyeter resin having a softening point of 80.degree. to 180.degree. C., further having been obtained by copolycondensing (A) a diol component with (B) carboxylic acid components comprising (a) a dicarboxylic acid, (b) trimellitic acid and (c) a polycarboxylic acid. A magnetic toner comprises magnetic powder and a coating layer to cover said powder, the layer being a reaction product between (1) a silane coupling agent containing an amino group, an isocyanate group or an epoxy group and (2) one or more compounds having a functional group reactive with one of the reactive group on the silane coupling agent. A compound having a carboxyl group, an acid anhydride, an isocyanate compound or a ketene dimer is used for the amino group. A compound having a hydroxyl group, an amine compound or a compound having a carboxyl group is used for the isocyanate group. A compound having a hydroxyl group, a compound having a carboxyl group or a copolymer of a di- or monoalkylamino-alkyl (meth)acrylate and a hydrophobic vinyl monomer is used for the epoxy group.
