A position detection system includes: a scan beam illumination section which causes a first-direction line-shaped scan beam that is parallel to the X-axis to scan in the Y-axis direction at a predetermined scanning speed, then causes a second-direction line-shaped scan beam that is parallel to the Y-axis to scan in the X-axis direction at a predetermined scanning speed; a light-receiving section which detects the timings at which the first and second-direction line-shaped scan beams pass through a pointing position on a screen; and a position calculation section which calculates the pointing position by a pointing device on the screen, based on the time from the start of scanning of the first-direction line-shaped scan beam until the passage thereof through the pointing position is detected and the time from the start of scanning of the second-direction line-shaped scan beam until the passage thereof through the pointing position is detected.

A game system for providing players with a higher sense of presence, a virtual reality environment and real-life simulations. A forward lean position of a player is detected by a forward lean position detector to carry out game computation to control a moving object on a screen according to operation information supplied by the player, including information indicative of the detected forward lean position. A force to rotate the moving object, a speed of the moving object and a motion of a cartoon character on the screen are controlled according to the forward lean position information. An information storage medium applicable to such a game system is also provided.

Action input device for simulator, and simulator using the same

An operational input device is operated by an operator to control an image displayed on a projector screen. A grip bar is arranged such that it extends laterally of the operator sitting on a seat. The grip bar is rotatable around each of a vertical axis and a horizontal axis, so that it can freely move about the respective vertical and horizontal axes within a three dimensional space. Therefore, the operator can operate the grip bar as if it is a paddle of a canoe. Since the grip bar extends laterally of the operator, a plurality of operators can grasp the grip bar simultaneously.
