The objective of the present invention is to provide a safe muscle-enhancing agent by which a muscle mass and muscular strength can be effectively increased or maintained and by which a decrease of a muscle mass and muscular strength can be suppressed, a muscle-enhancing composition containing the muscle-enhancing agent, and a method for enhancing muscle by using the muscle-enhancing agent or muscle-enhancing composition. The muscle-enhancing agent according to the present invention is characterized in comprising an extract derived from lemon myrtle as an active ingredient.

Muscle-enhancing agent

A liquid food composition that can be conveniently ingested or given with a tube and contains reduced aggregates in the composition is provided. A liquid food composition that shows fluidity in the neutral region, but solidifies in the stomach environment is further provided. According to the production method of the present invention, generation of fine particles in the production process of a liquid food composition containing a divalent metal salt, a protein, and water-soluble dietary fibers is reduced. Therefore, emulsification stability of the composition is improved, clogging of aggregates in strainer disposed in the production line etc. are eliminated, and thus the composition can be efficiently produced. Furthermore, since the composition obtained by the production method shows fluidity in the neutral region, but solidifies in the stomach environment, it can be conveniently ingested or given with a tube, and can effectively reduce the risks for developing gastroesophageal reflux disease, aspiration pneumonia, diarrhea, etc.

Method for producing liquid food composition

The present invention aims to provide a DPP-4 inhibitor that is obtained by using a food as a raw material and that is suitable for oral ingestion from the viewpoints of flavor and absorbability, and a composition for the prevention and/or amelioration of diabetes which contains the DPP-4 inhibitor. The present invention provides a DPP-4 inhibitor obtained by treating an azuki bean or a kidney bean with a microorganism or a proteolytic enzyme produced by the microorganism. In particular, a preferable DPP-4 inhibitor can be obtained by hydrolyzing an azuki bean with a koji mold or a proteolytic enzyme derived from the koji mold to fragment a protein in the azuki bean.

Provided is a liquid food composition capable of semi-solidifying in the stomach, which is a one-pack type product containing a water-soluble dietary fiber preliminarily added thereto and in the form of a liquid that can be easily taken, and stably sustains the liquid nature thereof during distribution and storage. The liquid food composition, which is capable of semi-solidifying in an acidic region, comprises a water-soluble dietary fiber (a), a specific metal compound (b), a protein (c) and an emulsifier (d), and the particle size distribution of particles contained in said liquid food composition shows two or more peaks in a neutral region.

The subject of the present invention is to provide a &#x3b2;-lactam acylase protein having high activity, a gene coding for said &#x3b2;-lactam acylase protein, a recombinant vector having said gene, a transformant containing said recombinant vector, and a method of producing a &#x3b2;-lactam antibiotic such as amoxycillin using said &#x3b2;-lactam acylase. A &#x3b2;-lactam acylase gene ofwas cloned, the DNA base sequence and the amino acid sequence expected therefrom was determined, and a&#x3b2;-lactam acylase gene was obtained. This gene was found to code for a protein with a molecular weight of about 70 kDa and having &#x3b2;-lactam acylase activity, and could efficiently produce amoxycillin without being inhibited by phenylacetic acid, etc. Furthermore, by modification of the amino acid sequence, a protein which can more efficiently produce amoxycillin could be obtained.
