A method for producing basic magnesium sulfate granules, by heating a water-containing granular composition to a temperature of 50-250&#xb0; C. to dryness. The granular composition has a water content of 10-60 wt. % and comprises fibrous basic magnesium sulfate particles, magnesium hydroxide in an amount of 5-300 weight parts per 100 weight parts of the fibrous basic magnesium sulfate particles, magnesium sulfate in an amount of 0.1-200 weight parts per 100 weight parts of a total amount of the fibrous basic magnesium sulfate particles and magnesium hydroxide. This method can give basic magnesium sulfate granules having a low bulk density and a high crushing strength.

A molded propylene polymer product improved in flexural properties and/or impact resistance is prepared by a process comprising the steps of blending fibrous inorganic filler-containing pellets with a propylene polymer-containing matrix resin composition, in which the pellets comprises 35-80 wt. % of a fibrous inorganic filler, 1-45 wt. % of an olefin polymer, 5-45 wt. % of an elastomer, and 0.3-10.0 wt. % of a specific lubricant; kneading the blended product under molten condition; and molding the kneaded product.

Fibrous basic magnesium sulfate-containing pellets comprising an olefin polymer and fibrous basic magnesium sulfate in a weight ratio of 80:20 to 20:80 and further comprising a nucleating agent in an amount of 0.3 to 8 weight parts based on 100 weight parts of the olefin polymer and in an amount of 0.2 to 4 weight parts based on 100 weight parts of the fibrous basic magnesium sulfate are favorably employable for producing molded fibrous basic magnesium sulfate-containing propylene polymer products which show high flexural modulus, high flexural strength and high yield strength in tension as well as excellent thermal stability.

Fibrous basic magnesium sulfate-containing pellets and production of molded propylene polymer products

A molded fibrous basic magnesium sulfate filler-containing olefin polymer composition product is produced by a process comprising the steps of preparing a fibrous basic magnesium sulfate tiller-containing master batch composition which comprises an olefin polymer, a fibrous basic magnesium sulfate filler, an elastomer, a specific lubricant and a specific filler-surface treating agent; mixing the master batch composition and a propylene polymer-containing diluent resin; kneading the resulting mixture in a molten state; and molding the molten mixture to give the molded product.

Production of molded fibrous basic magnesium sulfate filler-containing olefin polymer composition products

Basic magnesium sulfate granules having a bulk density of 0.5-1.0 g/cm, a mean crushing strength of 700-900 g and a water content of 3 wt. % or less which comprises agglomerated particles of fibrous basic magnesium sulfate particles and fibrous xonotolite particles in a weight ratio of 95:5 to 70:30, wherein the fibrous basic magnesium sulfate particles have a mean length of 5-200 &#x3bc;m and a mean thickness of 0.2-1.0 &#x3bc;m and the fibrous xonotolite particles have a mean length less than that of the fibrous magnesium sulfate particles. The basic magnesium sulfate granules can be produced by drying a water-containing granular composition comprising agglomerated particles of fibrous basic magnesium sulfate particles and fibrous xonotolite particles which have a water content of 40 to 60 wt. % for 36 hours or more, thereby obtaining a granular composition having a water content of 3 wt. % or less.

A granular material having a high strength and a large BET specific surface area composed of porous particles comprising calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide wherein the calcium oxide is contained in an amount of 30 to 80 weight % based on a total amount of the calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide and the porous particles have a BET specific surface area of 40 m/g or more, or composed of porous particles comprising calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium hydroxide, and magnesium hydroxide wherein a ratio of an amount of magnesium to a total of an amount of calcium and an amount of magnesium is in the range of 0.05 to 0.80, a total hydroxide content in the whole particles is in the range of 1 to 20 weight % and the porous particles have a BET specific surface area of 50 m/g or more.
