A pointed-position detecting apparatus where image output unit visually displays an image, and image input unit inputs the displayed visible image. The input visible image is stored into memory as an original image. The visible image is partially changed by using a manipulation device such as a laser pointer or a pointing rod, and the visible image with the partially-changed area is inputted from the image input unit. Controller extract the changed image area from the input visible image, and detects a pointed position based on the changed image area. Thus, the phenomenon where a user's action with respect to a displayed image is reflected as a change in the image is utilized to detect coordinates and motion at the image area as the object of change.

A display method and apparatus for displaying information by projecting a light onto an external projection plane is capable of detecting a deviation amount of a displayed image projected on the projection plane with respect to the display apparatus. Output image data is changed based on the detected deviation amount to offset a distortion of the displayed image, which is displayed using the changed output image data.

An image processing apparatus makes it possible to cut off a desired image with a high extraction rate irrespective of whether or not an inputted image has compression hysteresis. With the image processing method therefor, the inputted image data are at first divided into small blocks, and then, frequency transformation is executed. Further, small blocks are detected with respect to those containing character areas. Subsequently, detection is made as to whether or not any non-reversible compression is processed to the frequency transformed image data. In accordance with the result of such detection, data on a table are retrieved to obtain determination threshold values. On the basis of the determination threshold values thus retrieved, the small blocks containing characters are detected for separation.

An image information transmitting/receiving apparatus for time and cost-saving repetitive transmission. In facsimile communication, image data where further information is added to previously-transmitted image data is often received. In the present apparatus, the original image data is stored, and only difference data from the original image data is transmitted, thus the whole image can be reproduced at the receiving side, using the received difference data. Upon transmitting the difference image information, identification information identifying the difference image information is added to the difference information, and the entire image data to be received by the receiving side is stored. Upon receiving the difference image information, the received difference information is combined with the stored image data, and an image is reproduced based on the combined image data. Further, the image data used for image reproduction is stored as original image data for the next transmission. In this manner, once the original image data is stored, only difference data is sent at each subsequent transmission, thus reducing the amount of transmission data.

Image information transmitting method and apparatus

To improve an area cut-out ratio, a difference value between coefficients which are neighboring in an image block is calculated by a difference value calculation unit, an average value and a dispersion value of the difference value data are calculated by a distribution state calculation unit, and the average value and the dispersion value are compared with preset threshold values by a threshold value determination unit, thereby determining whether the relevant block is a character pattern area or not.

A system consisting of a plurality of terminals connected through communication is sometimes used to acquire information input from the terminals to a host terminal and edit/arrange the information in the host terminal when information is exchanged by inputting handwritten characters from the terminals. In this case, the host terminal must recognize the handwritten characters and thereafter process the characters to arrange the handwritten character information. Each terminal can perform character recognition by a unique character recognizing method. The terminals also individually prepare dictionaries for recognition. The host terminal returns the acquired handwritten character information to the terminals and causes the terminals to perform character recognition. Alternatively, the host terminal concentratively manages the character recognizing methods and dictionaries of all the terminals and performs character recognition.

Character recognizing apparatus and method of controlling the same

An image containing characters and lines, which is inputted by a scanner or the like, is binarized and stored in a memory. A thickening process is repeatedly applied on groups of significant bits stored in the memory, until a predetermined condition is fulfilled. After this process, the thickened image is thinned at least a greater number of times than the number of times the thickening process is repeated in order to eliminate lines. As a result, characters are determined to exist at areas where groups composed of remaining significant dots exist, then characters are separated from the input image based on the areas of groups composed of the remaining significant dots.

An input-output integrated type electronic apparatus is arranged to enable the orientation of a displayed picture to be changed according to the orientation of the apparatus in a used state, whereby the facility with which the apparatus is used is improved. An image processing apparatus which eliminates influence of motion of background and performs stable text-image cutout at a high extraction rate. In the apparatus, a block divider 20 divides image data in frame units into blocks of a predetermined size. A DCT unit 24 performs orthogonal transformation on each divided block, and a harmonic coefficient calculator 25 extracts data for judging whether or not the block is a character area. A still-block detector 26 compares the data with data of a corresponding block after orthogonal transformation in a previous frame, judges whether or not the difference between these data is small or large, and outputs the result of judgment. An attribute judgment unit 23 judges whether or not the block is a character area, based on the data from the harmonic coefficient calculator 25 and the data from the still-block detector 26, and outputs the result of judgment.

An information processing apparatus, which operates in a multi-task mode, calculates a total consumption power of devices used by each task, and assigns higher execution priority to a task which uses a device with the largest consumption power, thereby shortening the execution time of the device with the largest consumption power, and suppressing the total consumption power of the apparatus. When a device is started upon switching of tasks, if the total consumption power exceeds the allowable power of the apparatus by a power consumed upon restarting of the device, the task is set in a waiting state until operations of other devices are completed, the consumption power is lowered, and it is ready to use the device by the task.
