A multicylinder internal combustion engine includes a pair of camshafts, a pair of driven pulleys fixed to ends of the camshafts, a crankshaft, a driver pulley fixed to an end of the crankshaft, and a single endless belt trained around the driven pulleys and the driver pulley. A rotation sensor for detecting the rotation of the engine is disposed between a fixed engine member and the one of the driven pulleys around which a portion of the endless belt subject to greater tension is trained. A distributor is coupled coaxially to an opposite end of the camshaft to which said one driven pulley is fixed.

Multicylinder internal combustion engine with rotation sensor

A device for mounting fuel injection systems and particularly fuel injection nozzles and a fuel supply manifold. The device includes U-shaped structures having coaxial, spaced holes into which are mounted fuel injection nozzles. The fuel supply manifold is fixed to the structure such that it is in alignment with the nozzles to provide fuel thereto. The nozzles are mounted and sealed by resilient members positioned and compressed within the coaxial holes to provide vibration isolation, thermal isolation and accommodation of dimensional control anomolies in what is therefore allowed to be crudely fabricated components.

A secondary air introducing apparatus for introducing secondary air into the exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus includes a secondary air introducing passage connected between the air cleaner and the exhaust manifold of the engine, a check valve in the passage arranged to operate in response to pulsation pressure in the exhaust manifold to supply clean secondary air thereto, a first expansion chamber interposed in the passage on an upstream side of the check valve, and a second expansion chamber interposed in the passage on an upstream side of the first chamber. At least the check valve and the first chamber are fixedly mounted on the intake manifold.

Secondary air introducing apparatus for internal combustion engine

A rotator assembly for a poppet valve employed in an internal combustion engine employs a garter spring mounted in a circular groove concentric with the valve axis. A rotator plate rests on the garter spring so that the plate turns incrementally through a small arc each time the valve completes its opening and closing cycle. Concentric coil compression springs resist opening movement of the poppet valve and both of these springs are supported by a valve retainer which rests on the rotator plate. The lower ends of both springs are supported at the same elevation and the springs are centralized by means of integral fingers struck from the retainer ring to hold one or both springs in central position.

An exhaust port liner for an internal combustion engine is formed of thin wall heat resistant material and is provided with an entrance opening at one side to receive exhaust gases discharged from an engine combustion chamber. A poppet type valve which closes against a stationary seat has a portion which extends through the entrance opening of the liner and also through an aperture in a wall of the liner. This aperture may also receive a portion of the valve stem guide and the liner may be fixed to the valve stem guide in the region of said aperture. The liner has a discharge opening and a support flange supporting the liner encircles the discharge opening. A peripheral layer of heat insulating material may be provided on the liner and this heat insulating material may be confined within a shell forming a part of the liner.

Exhaust port liner for engine

Disclosed herein is a liner for an exhaust port system of an internal combustion engine for reducing heat loss from the exhaust gas to facilitate combustion of unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and oxidation of unburned carbon monoxide (CO). The exhaust port liner is rigidly secured at one end thereof to the exhaust port and is supported at its other end by means of a peripheral sealing ring to provide an airtight liner which is free sliding at said other end to accommodate expansion and contraction of the exhaust port liner by the exhaust gas passing therethrough.

Engine exhaust port liner system

An exhaust port liner for an internal combustion engine has an entrance opening at one side into which exhaust gases are directed by means of a cylindrical sleeve fixed relative to the exhaust valve seat. A portion of the poppet type exhaust valve extends through the sleeve and into the entrance opening. The liner is inserted into the exhaust port from the discharge end of the exhaust port. The liner is secured to the valve stem guide and is also supported near its discharge opening. The sleeve may be fixed to an insulating ring abutting the valve seat, or the sleeve may be threaded directly to the valve seat.
