A magnetic head for magneto-optical recording comprises a head body (32) having a sliding portion (37) which causes a head element to come in sliding contact with a magneto-optical disc (1). The sliding portion (37) is disposed on an inner periphery of the magneto-optical disc (1) relative to a central magnetic pole core (14a) of the head element so that, even when the central magnetic pole core 14a is located at an outer peripheral point (A) of the magneto-optical disc (1), the sliding portion (37) can be prevented from hitting a bump portion formed on the outer periphery of the magneto-optical disc (1). Thus, in the sliding type magnetic head for magneto-optical recording, a utilization factor of a reliable recording and reproducing region of the magneto-optical disc (1) can be improved.

Sliding type magnetic head for magneto-optical recording

A head base which can be used with either of two different types of drums having a regular diameter and a smaller diameter. The head base comprises a single base plate having a transverse hole perforated therein in such a manner as to define a front portion, a rear portion and a pair of connecting portions which connect the front and rear portions to each other such that the front portion and the rear portion are capable of being separated from each other at the connecting portions. When the head base is to be used with a drum of a regular diameter of a rotary drum apparatus, it is used as it is. But when it is to be used with a drum of a smaller diameter, it is cut or broken at the connecting portions thereof to separate the front portion from the rear portion, and only the front portion is used as a head base.

Transducer head base for multiple size drums

A method for manufacture of a bulk-type magnetic head capable of performing a frame recording operation. In sequential steps, coil grooves and track-width limit grooves substantially orthogonal thereto are formed in respective butt surfaces of a pair of magnetic core blocks, and then head-element division slits are formed between the track-width limit grooves. Subsequently the magnetic core blocks are joined to be integral with each other, and notches are formed in the core blocks in such a manner as to extend from lateral surfaces of the core blocks on the reverse side with respect to the butt surfaces thereof and to reach at least the coil grooves adjacently to the head-element division slits, whereby the in-line precision of magnetic gaps can be enhanced and high productivity is attained in manufacture of the magnetic head.

Method for manufacture of magnetic head

A double base type double azimuth magnetic head including two head bases and a pair of head chips bonded and anchored thereto respectively. The two head bases integrally have anchor lugs with flat reverse surfaces for anchoring the head chips thereto. The head bases further have joint regions partially and are joined to each other at the surfaces of the joint regions in such a manner that the anchor lugs are placed mutually adjacent in the same direction and the reverse surfaces of the anchor lugs become flush with each other. The pair of anchored head chips are so disposed as to constitute a double azimuth head while being positioned mutually adjacent on one line with a predetermined gap left therebetween, and screw-setting circular apertures are formed in the joined head bases for attachment to a rotary drum. Due to such a structure, the operation of winding coils around the head chips can be automated, and the dimensional precision is enhanced.

A method for manufacture of a bulk-type magnetic head capable of performing a frame recording operation. A pair of magnetic core blocks with magnetic gaps formed in butt surfaces thereof are slit and comb-toothed to produce a pair of head element couplers, and such element couplers are joined to each other in a state where the comb-toothed portions of one coupler are inserted into the slits in the other coupler while the respective coupling portions are butted to each other, whereby the in-line precision of the magnetic gaps can be enhanced.
