The present invention provides an ethylene polymer that has excellent fluidity and moldability as well as gives a molded product having excellent mechanical strength. The ethylene polymer of the present invention contains 0.02 to 1.50 mol % of a constitutional unit derived from &#x3b1;-olefin having 6 to 10 carbon atoms, and has the density of 945 to 975 kg/m, which satisfies both of the following requirements [1] and [2] simultaneously:

An ethylene polymer containing 0.01 to 1.20 mol % of a constitutional unit derived from &#x3b1;-olefin having 6 to 10 carbon atoms, wherein with respect to cross fractionation chromatography (CFC), either (1) the weight average molecular weight (Mw) of the components eluted at 73 to 76&#xb0; C. does not exceed 4,000, or (2) the ethylene polymer satisfies the following relationship (Eq-1), provides a molded product having excellent moldability and therefore excellent mechanical strength and appearance:&#x2266;0.1&#x2003;&#x2003;(Eq-1)wherein Sis the sum of the total peak areas related to the components eluted at 70 to 85&#xb0; C., and Sis the sum of the total peak areas related to the components eluted at 0 to 145&#xb0; C.

Ethylene polymer and application thereof to moldings

The sheathed wire or cable of the invention is obtained by coating an outermost layer of a wire or cable with a polyethylene resin produced by polymerization using a single-site catalyst. The polyethylene resin preferably has the properties: (i) the 50% crack occurrence time (F ), that becomes an indication of stress crack resistance, is not less than 600 hours, (ii) the abrasion wear as measured by a Taber abrasion test is not more than 10 mg, and (iii) the Izod impact strength (notched) as measured at &minus;40&deg; C. is not less than 40 J/m . In the polyethylene resin, high-pressure low-density polyethylene may be contained. The sheathed wire and cable exhibit excellent stress crack resistance, abrasion resistance and low-temperature impact resistance because their sheaths have stress crack resistance, abrasion resistance and low-temperature impact resistance better than those of conventional polyethylene sheaths.
