A disc brake having a plurality of pistons with the same outer diameter fitted in a cylinder portion of a caliper on at least one side of a disc so that the pistons cause a pad to press against the disc. At least one of the pistons has a relatively large wall thickness so that it is different from the other pistons in pad pressing area, and its natural frequency falls outside the range of from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, thereby suppressing the generation of brake noise.

Disc brake

A drum brake includes a pair of brake shoes which are provided such that when expanded, they are forced against a brake drum to generate a braking force, a strut which is received in notches formed in the respective webs of the brake shoes so as to extend therebetween, a parking lever which is rotatably supported on either one of the brake shoes such that when rotated, it engages the strut to expand the brake shoes, and a coil spring which is loaded between the strut and the notch formed in the web of the other brake shoe to bias the strut toward the first brake shoe. The notch in the web that is engaged with the strut includes a first notch portion that is formed by cutting the outer peripheral portion of the web and a second notch portion that is formed by further cutting the web at the bottom of the first notch portion at the approximately central portion thereof in the direction of the width of the notch. The strut is engaged with a surface of the web defining the bottom of the second notch portion and one end of the coil spring is engaged with another surface of the web defining the bottom of the first notch portion. Accordingly, the coil spring will not contact the edges of the web due to backlash of the strut, so that the coil spring is prevented from being broken.

Drum brake

A drum brake including a backing plate adapted to be mounted on a non-rotatable member of a vehicle, the backing plate having a shaft hole formed therethrough at the center thereof for accommodating a shaft of the vehicle, a drum adapted to be mounted on a rotatable member of the vehicle, a pair of brake shoes mounted on the backing plate and arranged to be expandable in the radial direction of the drum, a connector connecting respective ends of each of the brake shoes together, an anchor with which the other end of each of the brake shoes are engageable, and mounting bolts for mounting the backing plate on the non-rotatable member of the vehicle. The mounting bolts are located outwardly of the shaft hole and close to each other. The anchor is also fixed to the non-rotatable member of the vehicle by the mounting bolts.

A cylinder device including a piston working in a cylinder and partitioning the interior of the cylinder into an oil space and an air space, and a seal in the form of a molded packing ring such as a U-packing or U-cup packing mounted on the piston to seal the oil space from the air space. An additional lip is formed on the seal in addition to a conventional annular lip and is spaced from the conventional lip in the direction toward the air space and is angled toward the air space.

Cylinder device

A shoe drum brake of the type including a pair of shoes, a first having a cylindrical portion, a second strut having external screw thread portion telescopically received in the cylindrical portion, an adjusting nut threadingly engaging with the screw thread portion of the second strut and abutting with the first strut, and an automatic shoe clearance adjusting mechanism associated with a hand brake lever, the mechanism comprises a supporting shaft pivotally connecting the hand brake lever with one end of either of the first and second struts, and an adjust lever for rotating the adjusting nut in association with the movement of the hand brake lever. A spring is provided to bias the automatic shoe clearance adjusting mechanism toward a backing plate.

Shoe drum brake

An automatic brake shoe clearance adjusting device includes a first strut member having a threaded stem screw-threadingly engaging with an adjusting nut, a second strut member having a hollow portion for receiving the threaded stem and abutting with the adjusting nut, an adjusting lever mounted on a hand brake lever by a pin and cooperating with the adjusting nut, and a spring acting between the hand brake lever and the adjusting lever for urging the adjusting lever against a stop formed on the hand brake lever. There is provided, at least on a line passing through the center of the pin and the stop, an element for restricting movement of the adjusting lever in the direction of the axis of the pin.
