The invention provides a growth regulator for gramineous weeds, particularly those growing in turf, which comprises, as an active ingredient, cytokinin and/or an ethylene-producing substance in combination with cytokinin; and a method for regulating the growth of gramineous weeds with the relevant growth regulator more economically with ease.

Growth regulators for gramineous weeds

A herbicidal composition is provided which is characterized by the combination use as active ingredients of a thiocarbamate derivative of formula I: ##STR1## wherein one of X and Y is a hydrogen and the other is a chlorine and 4-amino-3-methyl-6-phenyl-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one of the formula: ##STR2## Also provided is a process of inhibiting the growth of unwanted plants by applying the herbicidal composition to the plants or to the soil where the plants are grown.

Herbicidal composition and process

A herbicidal composition comprises a bipyridylium salt and a thiocarbamate having the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sub.1 each represent a lower alkyl group which in combination with each other can form a heterocyclic ring with the N atom; R.sub.2 represents ##STR2## AND X represents a halogen atom or a lower alkyl group; and n represents 0, 1 or 2.
