A cooling apparatus includes an electric water pump that circulates a coolant, a radiator that radiates heat of the coolant, an electric fan that cools the radiator, a control device, and first flow rate correction means. The control device controls the discharge flow rate of the electric water pump based on a target flow rate set based on an amount of heat generated in an engine, and controls operation of the electric fan based on a coolant temperature. When the coolant temperature is equal to or higher than a fan operation temperature at which the operation of the electric fan is started, the first flow rate correction means increases the discharge flow rate of the electric water pump in accordance with an increase in the coolant temperature.

Cooling apparatus and cooling method for internal combustion engine

A device for utilizing waste heat from a heat engine comprises a Rankine cycle including a pump, a heating device, an expansion device, and a condenser device, and a controller for controlling an operation of the Rankine cycle. The controller calculates an optimum heat collection amount (Qho) as a heat value to be collected from waste heat of the engine, wherein the heat collection amount (Qho) is calculated as an optimum amount in relation to a potential maximum heat radiation amount (Qco) to be radiated at the condenser device. The controller calculates an optimum flow amount (G) of refrigerant corresponding to the optimum heat collection amount (Qho), so that a maximum driving power (L) is generated at the expansion device.

Device for utilizing waste heat from heat engine

A waste heat recovery system of an engine has a cooling water circuit and a Rankine cycle. Cooling water is circulated between the engine and a radiator in the cooling water circuit. The Rankine cycle has a heater and an expansion device. The heater performs heat exchange between the cooling water heated by the engine and an operation fluid so as to heat the operation fluid in the Rankine cycle. The expansion device expands the heated operation fluid, so as to generate driving power. The heater is arranged in a bypass circuit so as to be in parallel with the radiator with respect to the cooling water flow. Thus, waste heat of the cooling water heated by the engine can be effectively recovered without reducing a cooling capacity of the radiator.

An object of the invention is to provide a rankine cycle suitable for a use for a motor vehicle. In a waste heat collecting system having the rankine cycle and a refrigerating cycle, when ECU receives an air-conditioning signal from A/C ECU, the refrigerating cycle is operated, by preceding the operation of the rankine cycle. In the case that there is no air-conditioning signal and a temperature of an engine cooling water is higher than a predetermined value, the rankine cycle is operated.

A seal surface plate ( ) is then assembled to the second plate ( ) and is brazed by heat-brazing in an inert gas atmosphere. Since a flux residue on the seal surface plate ( ) can be drastically reduced in this manner after brazing is complete, the seal surface plate ( ) can secure predetermined surface texture even after brazing is complete while the number of process steps necessary for applying the flux is reduced.

Heat exchanger and brazing method

A heat exchanger has a core portion composed of several pairs of first and second plates laminated with and brazed to one another. Each of the first and second plates is composed a core member, a brazing filler layer formed on a surface of the core member, and a sacrifice layer formed on the other surface of the core member. For instance, to form a pair of the first and second plates, the first plate is formed with a convex portion with an opening portion, and a burring portion of the second plate is inserted into the opening portion and is plastically deformed such that the sacrifice layer of the second plate closely contacts the brazing filler metal layer of the first plate. Then the first and the second plates are brazed together.

An oil cooler is fixed to an engine via an installation stay provided around an outer periphery of the oil cooler. Thus, the load applied to a core portion is reduced, and the load is dispersed on entire portion of the oil cooler. Thus, the respective stresses applied to respective portions of the oil cooler are very small, and a deformation of the core portion is prevented. Furthermore, since the respective stresses on any portion of the oil cooler is reduced, it is possible to make the oil cooler with aluminum whose strength is lower than that of iron. Furthermore, since the thickness of the installation stay can be reduced, difference in the thermal expansion quantity caused by difference in coefficients of linear expansion of the bolt and the installation stay is significantly reduced, and the loose bolt of the bolt caused by difference in coefficients of linear expansion is prevented.

Oil cooler mounting structure

An oil cooler has a tube disposed in a cooling water passage and defining an oil passage therein, an oil side inner fin brazed to an inside wall of the tube in the oil passage, and a water side inner fin brazed to an outside wall of the tube in the cooling water passage. The thickness Tw of the water side inner fin is thicker than the thickness To of the oil side inner fin. The water side and oil side inner fins are corrugated fins.

First and second communicating holes are formed in a first formed plate 11, and first and second communicating holes are also formed in a second formed plate 12. The first and second formed plates 11 and 12 are joined to each other to form a joined body 8. When a plurality of joined bodies 8 are stacked, a heat exchanging section 7 is formed that is provided with a plurality of flow pipes 34 in which the first communicating holes are connected with each other in the stacking direction and the second communicating holes are also connected with each other. In the plurality of flow pipes 34 of the heat exchanging section 7, oil passage 35 in which engine oil flows in the stacking direction is formed, and further around the plurality of flow pipes 34, a plurality of cooling water passages 36 in which engine cooling water flows are formed.

Heat exchanger

An oil cooler includes a heat exchanging core 40 which includes a stack of heat exchanging plates 40. Each of the heat exchanging plates 40 includes a first set of openings 61 and 62 and a second set of openings 65, 66 and 67. The openings 65, 66 and 67 in the second set construct rows which are spaced along the width W of the plates 40. The openings between the first and second sets are alternately arranged along a direction of the width W of the plates. The openings 61 and 62 in the first set are symmetrical about a central axis X--X, while the openings 65, 66 or 67 in each row are asymmetric about the axis X--X. The stack of the plates 40 is such that the plates are alternately reversed, so that the symmetrical openings 61 and 62 are in communication with each other in the stack to created a first passageways 63 and 64 in the direction transverse to the plane of the plates 40 for the water, and so that the asymmetrical openings 65, 66 and 67 are in communication with each other in the stack to created a second passageways 68, 69 and 70 in the direction parallel to the plane of the plates. The plates 40 are provided with partitions 220 and 222 for dividing the second passageways into the groups 68, 69 and 70 for different oils.
