A fault detection device has a pair of power supply lines connected to a high voltage battery via power supply relays. Capacitors and inverters for driving a motor are disposed between the power supply lines. A controller in the fault detection device controls the inverters to discharge the capacitors at different times after the power supply from the battery to motor is stopped by switching OFF the power relays. The controller then determines whether the capacitor voltage has dropped after each capacitor is discharged. Based on the determination result of the voltage drop in each of the capacitors, the controller can determine whether the power supply relays or the capacitors are malfunctioning.

Fault detection device

A monitoring apparatus used in a vehicle is provided to communicate with an electronic control apparatus that controls a driving force of the vehicle by executing any one of a plurality of predetermined different controls. The monitoring apparatus receives a vehicle specification from the electronic control apparatus, and determines whether the received vehicle specification is appropriate, to provide a determination result. The monitoring apparatus further sets whether at least one of the predetermined different controls is permitted or not permitted to be executed by the electronic control apparatus in response to the determination result.

Monitoring apparatus and driving force control system

There is provided a hybrid vehicle configured to control an engine, a first motor, a second motor and a third motor such as to be driven based on a required torque for driving. When the second motor is undrivable, the hybrid vehicle is configured to control the engine, the first motor and the third motor, such as to provide a higher state of charge of a battery than a state of charge of the battery provided when the second motor is drivable and such as to output a torque from the engine via a planetary gear to one pair of wheels accompanied with output of a torque from the first motor and output a torque from the third motor to the other pair of wheels.
