An electric power steering system () includes a tubular sensor housing () which accommodates a torque sensor (), a gear housing () which accommodates a speed reduction mechanism (), and an upper bearing () and a lower bearing () which rotatably support a steering shaft () on opposite sides of the speed reduction mechanism (). The gear housing () includes a tubular lower housing () supporting the lower bearing (), and an upper housing (). The upper housing () includes an inner tube (), an outer tube (), and an annular connection wall () connecting the inner tube () and the outer tube (). The outer tube () is press-fitted in the lower housing (). The inner tube () is press-fitted to an inner periphery () of a lower portion () of the sensor housing (), whereby the inner tube () has a reduced diameter. As a result, an outer ring () of the upper bearing () is tightly fitted and supported in the inner tube ().

Electric power steering system

A torque detector () is provided with first and second units (). The first unit () includes a first synthetic resin () formed by molding a pair of magnetic flux collector rings (A,B). The second unit () includes a second synthetic resin () fixed to a magnetic shield plate (B) containing a metal; an insertion protruding part () arranged on the synthetic resin (); and magnetic sensors (A,B) held by the insertion protruding part (). The first synthetic resin () includes a receiving plate () whereupon a base (e) for receiving the magnetic shield plate (B) is formed. In a status where the receiving plate () exists between the magnetic shield plate (B) and an object () to be attached, both the magnetic shield plate (B) and the receiving plate () are fastened to the object () by a pair of fixing screws ().

Torque detector

An inventive torque detection device includes: a magnetic circuit forming member having a tubular magnet provided at a first rotating body, and a magnetic ring that is located circumferentially of the tubular magnet and rotated together with a second rotating body connected to the first rotating body; a magnetic flux collecting ring part for collecting a generated magnetic flux; a detection part for detecting, based on a density of the collected magnetic flux, a torque applied to the first or second rotating body; and a molded body that is molded at an outer circumferential portion of the first rotating body, and is joined to longitudinal both sides of the tubular magnet so as to fix the tubular magnet to the first rotating body. A molding pressure, generated when the tubular magnet is molded, is applied in the longitudinal direction of the tubular magnet.
