A liquid crystal display panel includes a TFT substrate, a color filter (CF) substrate opposed to the TFT substrate, a sealant disposed between the TFT substrate and the CF substrate and disposed between portions of both the substrates located immediately outside display regions thereof, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the TFT substrate and the CF substrate. The CF substrate is provided with a light-shielding layer at a portion located immediately outside its display region. The light-shielding layer is provided with a slit at a region that coincides with a line on the TFT substrate.

In a multi-gap semi-transmissive liquid crystal display device, the width of a black matrix () is made larger above the region between adjacent ITO transparent electrodes () and is made smaller above the region between adjacent Al reflective electrodes (). This enables a transmissive portion to offer a display with high contrast that does not suffer from afterimage or the like by shielding light from the domain lying between the adjacent pixels, and the reflective portion to offer a brighter display by increasing the aperture ratio thereof by making the black matrix width as small as possible or forming no black matrix.

A liquid crystal display panel includes a color filter substrate, a TFT substrate, a loop-shaped sealant formed along the peripheries of the substrates, a loop-shaped seal barrier formed along the sealant in the interior of the sealant, and a liquid crystal layer surrounded by the seal barrier. The seal barrier includes an inclined face in the sealant side.

A method for fabricating a liquid crystal display device is provided. The liquid crystal display device includes an active matrix substrate, a counter substrate disposed to face the active matrix substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate. The active matrix substrate includes: gate signal lines for supplying control signals and source signal lines for supplying video signals formed to cross each other; switching elements formed at crossings of the gate signal lines and the source signal lines in a matrix, the switching elements being connected to the gate signal lines and the source signal lines; an interlayer insulating film formed on the resultant active matrix substrate; and pixel electrodes formed on the interlayer insulating film in a matrix, wherein a color organic film is used as the interlayer insulating film, and laminated to the resultant active matrix substrate.
