A driving method of a touch display panel includes: selectively operating in a display mode and a touch detecting mode; when operating in the display mode during a first frame period, processing a first frame to generate an image processing indicator of a second frame for indicating an image processing level of the second frame; when operating in the touch detecting mode during the first frame period, generating a control signal when a touch is detected; wherein when the control signal is generated, processing the second frame according to an image processing indicator of the first frame for indicating an image processing level of the first frame when operating in the display mode during a second frame period, instead of using the image processing indicator of the second frame.

A backlight control system and method are disclosed. An overdrive device modifies a backlight duty signal according to a current-frame backlight duty signal and a previous-frame backlight duty signal. In one embodiment, the overdrive device is implemented with a lookup table that outputs the modified backlight duty signal. The backlight driven by the modified backlight duty signal then emits light to a display panel, thereby increasing a response time of the backlight.

A backlight controller, a display device using the same and a method for controlling a backlight module are provided. The backlight controller includes a temporal weighting module and a dimming controlling module. The temporal weighting module calculates a weight sum of a first backlight luminance provided in a current frame and a target backlight luminance to serve as an adjusted backlight luminance. The target backlight luminance is obtained according to an image content of the current frame. The dimming controlling module increases or decreases the adjusted backlight luminance by a step value according to the target backlight luminance and generates a second backlight luminance provided in a next frame. Therefore, a backlight luminance of the backlight module not only can be smoothly adjusted to the target backlight luminance at high speed for avoiding backlight flicker, but also can be adaptive to image content for saving electric power consumption.

The method includes forming a piecewise linear tone remapping function for a digital image according to the histogram thereof. The piecewise linear tone remapping function is formed by repeatedly performing a first and a second step. The first step determines a starting linear tone mapping function for a specific range of luminance values. The second step generates a new tone mapping function for the specific range of luminance values based on the starting linear tone mapping function and the histogram. An image enhancement apparatus is provided. The image enhancement apparatus includes a global tone mapping curve generator, a local tone mapping curve generator, a reference gamma voltage generator and an image generator. The global tone mapping curve generator generates a global tone mapping curve for an input image according to global characteristic(s) of the input image. The local tone mapping curve generator generates a local tone mapping curve for each image partition within the input image according to the global tone mapping curve and further a feature of the image partition. The reference gamma voltage generator generates a plurality of reference gamma voltages for each image partition according to the corresponding local tone mapping curve for the image partition. The image generator generates an output image according to the reference gamma voltages of the image partitions and the input image.

A system and method of contrast enhancement is disclosed. A contrast enhancement unit processes an input pixel to generate a contrast-enhanced pixel, and a delta unit subtracts the input pixel from the contrast-enhanced pixel, thereby resulting in a difference value. Multiple delayed difference values generated by a delay unit are low-pass filtered to generate a refined difference value. An adding unit adds back the refined difference value to the input pixel, thereby resulting in an output pixel that is contrast-enhanced without noise boost.

A method for separating luminance and chrominance of a composite TV analog signal includes the steps of: measuring first differences between horizontal neighbor pixels, second differences between vertical neighbor pixels and third differences between temporal neighbor pixels encoded in the composite TV analog signal; comparing the first, second and third differences with one another to obtain a minimum difference used as a factor of a weighting function; and filtering the composite TV analog signal simultaneously by a two-dimensional (2D) comb filter and a three-dimensional (3D) comb filter according to the weighting function on the basis of the minimum difference to obtain a luminance signal and a chrominance signal, in which magnitudes of a part of the composite TV analog signal filtered by the 2D comb filter and magnitudes of the other part of the composite TV analog signal filtered by the 3D comb filter are determined by the weighting function.

An overdrive system adaptable for a dynamic gamma generator is disclosed. A current gray-to-voltage converter (G/V) converts image data of a current frame from gray code to voltage level, and a previous gray-to-voltage converter (G/V) converts image data of a previous frame from gray code to voltage level. The voltage level of current frame and the voltage level of previous frame are inputted to an overdrive-voltage lookup table to retrieve an overdrive voltage level. Afterwards, a voltage-to-gray converter (V/G) converts the retrieved overdrive voltage level from voltage level back to gray code, resulting in an overdrive gray code. Accordingly, the overdrive gray code is compensated. Alternatively, the overdrive gray code is used to update an overdrive-gray-code lookup table, an output gray code of which is fed to the source driver.

A digital image tone remapping method is disclosed. The method includes computing an average luminance value of a digital image; generating a preliminary tone mapping function according to the average luminance value; generating a luminance statistic of the digital image; determining new remapped values for a plurality of skeleton luminance values according to the preliminary tone mapping function and the luminance statistic; generating a final tone mapping function according to the new remapped values and the plurality of skeleton luminance values; and remapping the digital image through the final tone mapping function. The present invention also discloses an apparatus performing the method.

The invention provides image display panels. The image display panel comprises a histogram generator, a tone slope generator, and an image transformer. The histogram generator receives an original image, counts the pixels of different gray levels to generate a histogram distribution of the original image, and compares the pixel counts at every gray level with a first threshold count to identify the peaks of the histogram distribution. The tone slope generator generates a tone slope based on the histogram distribution and peaks of the histogram distribution. The image transformer transforms the original image into a modified image based on the tone slope.
