A display deviceincludes light emitting sectionsof different luminous colors disposed between anode and cathode electrodes, current control unitsfor controlling currents supplied to the light emitting sectionsto desired current levels, respectively, and an emergency power supply for supplying a current to the current control unitsin an emergency in which a commercial power source does not perform a desired function. When operated by the emergency power supply, the current control units turn on and off the light emitting sectionsof different luminous colors such that they are turned on during different periods of time. When the emergency power supply is used, the display devicecontrols turning on of the planar light emitting element using an organic EL light emitting element depending on luminous colors thereof, thereby suppressing the power consumption of the emergency power supply.

The lighting appliance includes a light source and a light control apparatus. The light control apparatus includes an electric current output circuit which outputs a constant electric current for lighting to a light source configured of an organic electroluminescence device, an electric current control circuit which controls an intensity of a driving electric current outputted from the electric current output circuit, and the electric current control circuit biases a direct current component so as to vary the driving electric current periodically between a predetermined maximum value and a predetermined minimum value and flows in the same direction at all times in the light control of the light source.

Organic electroluminescent light emitting device for restoring normal operation after low-voltage errors

A discharge lamp lighting device includes: a DC power source; an inverter for inverting the DC power at a predetermined inversion time interval to supply a square wave AC power to a discharge lamp; and a controller for controlling the output power. The controller performs a synchronous operation and controls the DC power source such that DC power outputted during a period other than the output temporarily increasing period in a power increasing period is greater than the DC output power outputted during the period other than the output temporarily increasing period in a rated power period. Further, the controller controls the DC power source such that at least one of an increment of the output power for the output temporarily increasing period and a length of the output temporarily increasing period is less in at least a part of the output increasing period than in the rated power period.

An electrodeless discharge lamp has a bulb into which a discharge gas and a mercury, which is controlled at a temperature of a coldest spot are filled. A power coupler generates a high frequency electromagnetic field. A ferrule couples the bulb and the power coupler. The bulb is configured as a substantially spherical barrel formed of a transparent material and has an opening. A sealing member is welded to the opening of the barrel having a substantially cylindrical cavity. A protrusion, which becomes the coldest spot when the lamp is lit in a state that the ferrule is disposed upward, is formed at an apex of the bulb. A protruding portion is formed in a vicinity just above the ferrule of the bulb, that is, in a bulb neck portion, so that the bulb neck portion becomes the coldest spot when the lamp is lit in a state that the ferrule is disposed downward. Thereby, a constant optical output is obtained, regardless of a posture of installation of the electrodeless discharge lamp.

An arc discharge metal halide lamp for use in selected lighting fixtures having a discharge chamber with light permeable ceramic walls of a selected shape about a discharge region of a selected volume. A pair of electrodes are supported in the discharge region separated from one another by a separation length. The separation length is in a ratio to the effective inner diameter that is greater than four. Ionizable materials are provided in the discharge region comprising a quantity of mercury in a ratio to the discharge region volume that is less than 4 mg/cm, a noble gas, praseodymium halide, and sodium halide.

An electrodeless discharge lamp includes a single type auxiliary electrode for preliminary discharging, disposed on or adjacent to outer peripheral wall of lamp tube at a position for being electrostatically coupled to interior space of the tube, and supplied with a power from a second high frequency power source other than a first high frequency power source supplying a high frequency power to a main induction coil on the tube, whereby the lamp is made to attain an excellent startability without requiring any large size high frequency power source.

An electrodeless discharge lamp includes a discharge gas sealed in a lamp tube. The discharge gas includes a halide of rare earth metal. An auxiliary electrode is disposed on or adjacent to an outer periphery wall of the lamp tube such that the auxiliary electrode is capacitively coupled to an interior space of the lamp tube. A main induction coil is wound around the lamp tube and receives power from a first high frequency power source. The auxiliary electrode receives power from a second high frequency power source. In operation, the electrodeless discharge lamp attains smooth lighting upon starting or restarting.

An electrodeless discharge lamp includes a lamp tube coated on inner surface with a fluorescent material and filled with mercury vapor and a rare gas where the gas provides an excitation luminescence of the same series of color as luminous color of the fluorescent material. The gas and vapor in the tube effectively maintain the luminescence of the lamp over a wide ambient temperature range where the rare gas provides luminescence of a selected color at lower temperatures and the mercury vapor and fluorescent material provide luminescence of the same color in the middle and higher temperature ranges.

An electrodeless discharge lamp device has an envelope in which a gas that discharges to emit light upon application of a high frequency voltage is sealed, the envelope including two straight pipe parts forming a circulating discharge path, so that a high frequency electric current is caused to flow throughout the discharging gas in the entire envelope and a uniform discharge light emission can be attained.
